Advantages: Rollercoasters, Attractions, Weather
Disadvantages: Location, Seasonality problems
We've all heard of Disney, and Universal Studios in the States, have you been there? Don't the rides really suck? Well, where Cedar Point is lacking is Disney-style cheese and merchandising, it makes up for in phenomenal rollercoasters. *Location* Cedar Point is situated on a piece of land jutting out the top of Ohio into the Great Lake Erie at Sandusky. So not only are the rollercoasters great, but the view from the top is spectacular. The area has become a popular tourist resort for holidaying Americans with a large variety of hotels and resorts in traditional American style. There is a beach at the edge of the park to enhance the experience more in the summer. Although being on the coast has its disadvantages, in the form of seagulls, but they won't bother you too much. *Record-breaking* Last summer (2000) Cedar Point introduced the worlds tallest and fastest rollercoaster, the Millenium Force, standing at 310 feet tall (teller than the statue of liberty), and taking you on a 93 mile per hour journey. It is immense (unfortunately the queues were very long the day I went, so I skipped it for that reason, wasn't scared or anything!) Cedar Point also houses the worlds tallest and fastest wooden rollercoasters, the Mean Streak. Of the 14 rollercoasters, other highlights include the twisty corkscrew, the traditional Magnum voted best steel rollercoaster in the world 3 years running, and also previosuly the worlds tallest, the wonderful Power Tower that lets you either be dropped down the tower, or lets you be thrusted up the 240 tower at 50 miles per hour, a scary and stomach-churning experience, the Mantis which you ride standing up and the magnificent raptor, the inverted rollercoaster. *Fun for all the family* Cedar Point caters excellently for both children and adults. Camp Snoopy has been specialy introduced for children, with tame rollercoasters, theatre shows and simple rides. *What else* <
br><br>Cedar Point offers a variety of restaurants, cafes, arcades, simpler rides like the carousel, and stage shows. There is also a railway running around the park. Cedar Point has a variety of water-based rides where you may get splasged a bi, or entirely soaked-they are well appreciated on a hot day, but leave a change of clothes in the car for afterwards. Every night once its dark, Cedar Point puts on a light show. The theme is very American, almost convinced me I was American for a minute. Its a good end to an ejoyable day. *Soak City* The park within a park, this water amusement park is an added bonus for those with a bit more time to spend in Sandusky. *Seasonal Specialtys* If you are fortunate enough to visit in teh autumn, you may get to experience Halloween themed Cedar Point, which includes ghost houses and ghost trains, doesn't distract from the parks highlights, but an added bonus. *Price* Tickets range from $15 for kids to $39, although we were lucky enough to get $10 off with promotional Pepsi and Mountain Dew cans. You can buy tickets to incorporate other attractions, or for longer periods of time. For more infor, check out the website www.cedarpoint.com *Disadvatanges* Ohio isn't a destination visited too frequently by Brits, but if you want somewhere new in America, try it, nearby Cleveland is a very modern city with the Jacobs Field, the Indians stadium, the art gallery, the famous Rock and Roll hall of fame, many shops, the Flats (clubs) and much more. Cedar Point is only open from Spring until October due to the nasty lake effect Ohioan winters. It is well worth a visit, maybe if you are doing an American road trip, stop by it, Continental flys direct to Cleveland from London.
