Advantages: Good fun for the kids, quite good rides

Disadvantages: Expensive, crowded

Chessington World of Adventures, owned by the Madame Tussauds group, is a theme park an hour or so away from London.

To start with, I don't think that this theme park is as 'grown up' as Thorpe Park or Alton Towers. By this I mean that the rides aren't as exciting or dramatic. It's sort of inbetween Legoland and Thorpe Park, and while an adult can have fun there it will mainly be for children.

This is lucky, because kids are very well catered for. They've got a plethora of fun rides, as well as all of their favourite food (McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Burger King etc.)

Chessington is nearly always very crowded an expect to often wait over 1-2 hours for a ride, which is about average for most theme parks.

Chessington is similarly priced to Thorpe Park, and expect to pay around £100 or more for a family of four to get in, which is pricey but not overly so when compared to other theme parks.

Overall, Chessington is a good day out for the kids. They'll have a lot of fun on the rides etc, but for a one off trip it can also be quite good fun for adults. Going on a quiet day makes it more pleasurable (i.e. in school term time).
