Advantages: Lots for families and kids to do

Disadvantages: Long queues in the summer, expensive entry prices if not bought in advance

Chessington World of Adventures is somewhere I went a lot as a kid - and obviously I remember it being better than it is now as I went back a few years ago and it's more of a family park than a park with thrills! Great for the kids, but teenagers should aim for Thorpe Park or Alton Towers if they want the mad rides!

It is located just within the M25 and is signposted so it's pretty easy to find. You can get a train to Chessington South and catch the hoppa bus to take you to the park also if you don't drive. Or you can walk - its only ten minutes from the station.

The prices to get into the park are quite expensive - it is much cheaper to book online. For example an adult will cost you £33 on the day but only £24 online. Kids are £22 or £17 online. Most people collect the 2 for 1 vouchers that are found in Whsmith or the Sun or other papers throughout the year and take them to the park - this will save you a lot of money especially if you are a family or group of 4. It's always handy to go in even numbers though!

The park has lots of different lands and most things are easy to find. The faster paced rides are found in Transylvania, Forbidden Kingdom, Mystic East and Land of Dragons. Beano Land and Toytown are ones for the kids! Most of the rides take photos of you which you can buy when you get off; these vary from ride to ride but range from £5 to about £10. Always a great souvenir to buy one or two to take home! The Vampire Ride is still one of the best, as is Rameses Revenge, but the Professor Burps Bubbleworks is now the Imperial Leather Bubbleworks - and it's just not as good; it's lost the magic it has for me as a kid.

The ever popular Zoo is still there (along with the children's petting zoo), and a great place to take the kids perhaps after lunch for a bit of a walk around before you hit the rides again! There's also an aquarium which is another good places to take the kids.

Overall Chessington is a family park with a few thrill rides thrown in. The queues can get quite long during the summer months and school holidays but you would expect this with any theme parks. There's plenty of little amusements if you need a break from the rides and plenty of places to just sit and have a drink or a doughnut. It's a great family day out, not quite as good as when I was a kid, but still worth visiting. Just get some entry vouchers before you go!

Summary: Good family fun!
