Advantages: Fast, Fun and Exciting
Disadvantages: Long Queue
Next to the Aerosmith Rock and Rollercoaster, this is one of my favourite Disneyland rides. Big Thunder Mountain is at both the Paris Disneyland and the Orlando park too but this review is about the Paris version.
I always find the queue for this ride slightly less painful than some of the queues at the park. It weaves in and out and all around in such a manner that you think you're closer to the front of the queue than really you are! Ok it can be frustrating but at least you never feel like you've got another twenty minutes to wait, when really you have, and it makes it easier to get through. I do recommend getting a fast pass for this ride where you get a ticket and come back later to go in the shorter queue as there's always a wait for this ride, even in the middle of winter when the park is quieter.
The ride is basically a really fast rollercoaster. It's a family rollercoaster and my grandson is tall enough to go on it although I wouldn't think it's appropriate for most little ones at all, my grandson included. You can do parentswitch if you want to both have a go and the little one doesn't to save queueing up twice though.
The ride goes up through a big dark tunnel to start off with and the climb is really very steep. It's a bit frightening even thanks to all the creaking and groaning the track makes as it struggles up the hill! When you come out into daylight, there's a matter of seconds before you're up and over the peak of the hill and whizzing down the other side.
Despite being a family rollercoaster, this really is extremely fast and there's a real thrill to be had as you slide down the other side. There are plenty of turns, twists and bends along the way and the ride lasts for two circuits of the track which is a good length of time. If you're planning a visit to Disneyland Paris, this is one ride not to be missed.
Summary: Highly Recommended
