Advantages: Theme has been done very well.

Disadvantages: There are scarier rollercoasters out there.

Each disneyland park (except Hong Kong) has a version of a run away train, and Paris' version is called Big Thunder Mountain, which exists in the middle of the lake, over a fake village called Thunder Mesa.

There is a story behind the Big Thunder Mountain Attraction. I am not sure if it is real or not but I like the sound of it, it adds to the excitment of the ride. In the 1800s gold was discovered in the American Southwest and a mining village quickly built up around it. The village seemed jinxed and after a series of flash floods the viallage and mines were abandoned. Years later they village was discovered with the trains running independently with no operator. Thunder Mountain was built based on this haunted out of control railroad.

The setting is a railroad cut into a rocky mountain side. The designers pruposefully constructed the rail trakcs after the mountain had been done in an attempt to make it look authentically cut into the mountainside. The mountain rocks were based on Bryce canon national park in Utah.

The train has 15 carriages each of which take two people and have overhead restraints to kee you in tight. The ride is fast and designed to make you feel like it cold derail any second. There are lots of getting close to edges and big dips. In rollercoaster terms this ride is not that scary, there are better rollercoasters out there, especially in disneyland Paris, but scenerary wise and build up-this ride is amazing!

Summary: Great fun ride, wild west themed.
