Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast
Disneyland Resort Paris, Disneyland Park’s Discoveryland.
On this ride, you board a space cruiser and join in the mission to save the toys by getting back batteries stolen by Emperor Zurg.
You shoot at targets to collect points, which when totalled give you ranks like Star Cadet or Cosmic Commando.
Special effects include hand held dual laser pistols, flashing lights and manual rotation of cars.
As you enter the ride,(Star Command Action Centre) there is a display resembling the interior of a space station, with instruction booklets as walls, and information on how to use the laser guns.
The decor is Buzz Lightyear green. As you walk through the passage to the cars, (‘XP-41 Star Cruisers’), a large Buzz animated model encourages you to become a space ranger and help with the mission to retrieve power cells.
You then wait (Flight Deck) to board one of the circular green two-seater cars, to which a laser gun is attached. The cars run slowly along, and you have to step onto a moving platform to board one. You are instructed to remove the gun from the holster and that a shield is activated. The two guns are attached to the car by a long wire, and they light up and make blasting sounds as you shoot.
The ride is quite dark, in order that you can see the targets. These are illuminated squares placed on large robots, aliens, little green men and Zurg. There is a handle on the car that you can turn to spin the car around 360 degrees, in order to reach as many targets as possible, and a dashboard that keeps a score total. You know you have hit a mark when the back of the gun lights up, and some of the targets fall over when shot.
Halfway through the ride, you are transported through a short dark tunnel with speckles of light on the sides
recreating light speed into hyper space, and arrive at a giant model of Zurg in battle with Buzz (Zurg's ship). You are then instructed by Buzz to "give him all you've got", and he says to Zurg "never mess around with star command, sir". As Buzz blasts him with lasers, Zurg wails "Curse you, Buzz Lightyear!"
A voice informs you that the ride has been temporarily halted, and I suspect this is where the photos are taken which you can collect at the end, for a reasonable price.
You "resume your mission" for another minute of target shooting, and it is the end of the ride, where Buzz meets you via a video screen and says "mission acclompished! It's been an honour serving with you.."
The exit is a space station again,(Star Command) with a poster of little green men and a sign saying star cruiser loading bay. The announcer asks you to replace the guns back into their holsters, and you can see your score total on the car dashboard. You exit the car back onto the moving platform, and as you leave you can check the scoreboard to see what rank you are
according to your score. The ride lasts about 5 minutes, the scenery and targets are very colourful and well lit up, and although it is classed as a 'dark ride', it is never really dark.
You then leave through the shop and the photo stall, where you can see your photo on the display screens.(Gamma Quadrant.)
The photo also has a record of your scores.
This ride has all the thrill of an old-fashioned shooting gallery, mixed with modern technology and a well-loved Disney movie hero to jolly it along.

Summary: ride along, shooting gallery theme with flashing lights, based on Buzz Lightyear
