Advantages: Such a great fun fast ride.
Disadvantages: Queue.
I have been to disneyland Paris twice now and both times Space Mountain has been my favorite ride. It was opened in 1995 and has been drawing the crowds ever since. It is fully named Space Mountain: Mission 2 as it is the second of its sort, after the one in Florida.
Space mountain is situated to the right of disneyland as you go in, in Discovery Land, which is full of other attractions such as the railroad stop, an 'underwater' restaurant, and a journey to the centre of the earth exhibit.
To get on the ride you have to queue up outside. This for me is the massive downside as it is freezing cold for a large part of the year and in queues (especially for a ride this popular) you can be stationary for a couple of hours. The queue outside always appears so long even though there is a queueing section inside as they only let small groups of people inside at at time. Once inside you are nearly at the ride and walk through sections made up in silver metal to look futuristic. Once you are inside it is very dark with the exception of videos preparing you for your space travel in your space craft.
The ride itself is completely in the dark and that is the fantastic thing about it, the addition of flashing lights makes it much more exciting. At times you have spiralling lights around you whilst you are spiralling in the opposite direction and this makes it seem like you are spiralling quite literally out of control.
The music is loud and fast which adds to the adrenaline and hype. There are lots of sudden stops before the ride starts up again, and as you cannot see where you are going you get very scared as you do not know if you are going to drop forwards or backwards next.
One of the best bits of space mountain is the take off. They build it up by constantly announcing you are getting ready to take off. They count you down whilst you are stationary and then propel you forwards. This is done on the outside of the building, what looks like the roof, so you can see this when you are queuing up, which just makes you even more excited.
Overall I think this ride is fantastic, adrenaline filled, and the best I have ever been on. Obviously the ride is short, they all are. The only major downside is queueing outside in the cold.
Summary: Fantastic ride, be prepared to wait for it though.
