Advantages: The street stays open 1 hour after park closes
Disadvantages: The street gets very busy when the park is closing
Main Street, U.S.A is the first "themed land" inside the entrance of all the 4 Disneyland and Magic Kingdom parks by The Walt Disney Company around the world. It is one of the most known streets in the world.
Every Main Street, U.S.A. (apart from the one in Tokyo Disneyland) has the train station in front of the entrance. They did this because the stations hide the rest of the park mainly the 4 Castles that stand in the middle of the parks. They do this to make it feel like a film. You enter though the turnstile under the archers to a smell of popcorn and shops and as you turn the comer the main film start to run until you get to the top of the street where the film begins. It is an amazing feeling walking down Main Street. You feel like a kid again ready for an adventure.
If you look at the top of the buildings. All the windows have names and companies on them. This is like the starting credits of a film. They list the names of people and companies who made the parks. The Main name is above the station "Walt Disney" as he was the man who started it all. Of Disneyland's 50th anniversary a first story window on each Main Street around the globe was dedication to all the cast members who had work for Disney through the years.
The streets man looked paved with normal asphalt but they really paved with a resilient asphalt to prevent aching of feet. This is continues around the park. Also the streets and walk ways are panted in a perticular colour. Disney found after a lot of research that some colours make pictures look better.
Main Street is styled from states around America, such as New England and Missouri. This is most noticeable in the area in the middle alcove of Main Street where each of the four corner buildings represents a different architectural style.
Main Street is the main shopping and dinning area. City Hall at the start of the street is where the parks Guest Relations is. The Emporium on the corner carries a wide variety of Disney souvenirs such as plush toys, collectible pins, and Mickey-ear hats. Casey's Corner is one of the most popular take always in the park. It sells traditional American hot dogs & fries. This is the place a miss the most. When I get home from Walt Disney World I really miss having a good hot dog. Everyone must eat here once. Also Main Street has real working barber shop gives haircuts for a fee
Main Street uses a technique called forced perspective. The second stories of all the buildings are shorter than the first stories, and the third stories are even shorter than the second. The resulting visual effect is that the buildings appear to be larger and taller than they really are. This saved on building cost and restrictions.
I would recommend taking in this area. The shops are very good with everything you could want, clothes to glass works. The street give you a happy buzz and feeling was you walk down it. The street is also the best place to watch the fireworks from as you are directly in front of the castle.
Summary: You must see.
