Disney's newest theme park in California is the aptly named California Adventure. It is located directly across from Disneyland itself (in what used to be the old parking lot!) and it is a wonderful and unique experience.
This park is different to all the other Disney parks, even in the architecture and theming. While it still looks very "Disney" it has to truly represent the state it is portraying so it has a quirky look to it. So the traditional Disney themes are all there, but so are some uniquely californian themes such as Spanish style haciendas, beach atmosphere, the farmland, the state parks and even the look of Hollywood.
This park is split up into lands as is the norm with theme parks, and in this case the lands have to do with different aspects of California such as Hollywood, Napa Valley, desert airfields and the Spanish influence and so on. It is very well done and has the advantage of blending in quite well, just like it does in the real thing.
There are lots of great things to do while there (including a visit to a tortilla factory with samples and even the chance to taste some lovely california wines) but the absolute best attraction must be Soarin' over California located in the Condor Flats section of the park.
Without spoiling the surprise, this ride takes you on a flight over the whole state, taking in all the sights, sounds and even smells of California. This simply musn't be missed - it is a fantastic experience. It is also a good reminder of just how large this state is and how many things there are to do.
We truly enjoyed the time we spent there and felt that the ticket price was worth it as it was a full day. The park is so unique and so completely dedicated to California that there of course won't be another like it so we were glad to get the chance to go. I was so impressed by the park that, if I was Californian, I'd burst with pride after seeing all that my state has to offer, as presented
by Disney.
After spending the whole day there I felt that I'd learned a lot about the state (there are some educational exhibits that are also fun), I'd sampled the local fare and I had a really good idea of all the OTHER places I wanted to visit whilst in California. So you could say that this park is the ideal start to a holiday in this state - it's a living brochure!

This park also has a rollercoaster - California Screamin' and let me tell you it ROCKS. The whole ride has rock music blaring in your ear in time to all the spins and turns, it is really something. But, as a rule, Disney doesn't really cater to that audience so they keep the rollercoasters to a minimum. For this, the Six Flags parks in the US are much better (if you like that sort of thing)

I prefer an out and out rollercoaster driven theme park such as Port ventura near Barcelona (I think that's what it was called). I don't like Mickey Mouse anymore.
