Advantages: 2 OR 3 GOOD RIDES

Disadvantages: AS OPINION

Drayton manor theme park near Tamworth, Staffs was all right but I would not go rushing back there in a hurry.

The park was very easy to find as it is well sign posted off the M42 motorway and as with all theme parks the car parks are plentiful and huge.
The admission price for an adult is £14.00 which includes all the rides and for children under 12 was £10.00 there was also an admission price for anyone who just wanted to go into the park but not partake in any of the rides of £4.00 which is a good thing if you are taking granny and granddad.

The actual theme park it self is quite small when you compare it to places like Alton Towers, Thorpe Park or Chessington and it is quite obvious there is not the financial backing as with the previously mentioned theme parks as the attention to detail was lacking on many of the rides.

Whilst it does have 2 or 3 excellent white knuckle rides i.e. Apocalypse – where you have the option to either stand or sit and then get taken up a tower, about 200ft, held for what seems ages and then drop like a stone leaving your stomach 200ft in the air, Shockwave which is a stand up roller coaster with loops, corkscrews etc and StormForce10 which is based on the RNLI lifeboat and is a log flume where you go forward and get soaked and also backwards and get soaked.

All the other rides unfortunately are the same, as you would get at a good fairground.

As you would expect, eating-places are in abundance (none of the high street outlets are represented though i.e. BK, KFC or McDonald’s) whilst the prices compared favourably the cleanliness led a lot to be desired, both in the outlets themselves and the people serving.

Before travelling I checked there web site for their closing times, the web site stated 7.00pm but when we got to the park some places said 6.30pm others said 6.00pm but in fact some rides started to close down at 5.55pm which in the height of the school s
ummer holidays is some what early.

So all in all while it has 2 or 3 excellent rides, I am afraid I will not be going back there in a hurry.

A FAIR COMMENT

Fair enough review. I think the problem is that these days, our expectations of theme parks are higher (brought on by the media hype of Alton Towers) and we think that we'll see the same quality elsewhere. Drayton Manor is really a glorified fairground, and don't forget, it was originally intended as a Park and Zoo!
