Advantages: Lots of good rides and interesting exhibits; fabulous Halloween fireworks

Disadvantages: Very crowded if you pick the wrong day to go

Legoland is a fantastic theme park with the added benefit of having so many things made of Lego. While the kids in our group (aged 7 and 9) really enjoyed the rides and other activities, I was fascinated by the seemingly endless variety of Lego creations on display. Apart from Miniworld where so many real buildings had their Lego counterparts, the park is casually dotted with Lego creations each of which is perfect and astounding. My favourites were the polar bear sunbathing in a deck chair and the lifesize Lego family having a picnic. For the adult it's this sort of thing that is most interesting thought the rides aren't bad either.

We visited on the last day it was open last season so the rides were marred by enormous queues. The water based rides were the best really and you should do them first before they get crowded. The driving school didn't look like much fun to us but the kids were delighted - especially with the driving licenses they received at the end! The rollercoasters are good too but standing in line for over an hour for a 2 minute ride kind of took some of the fun out of it. The staff varied - some were really helpful while others were positively heartless, especially the one who locked the bathrooms before the fireworks and refused to open them for my 7 year old niece who was bursting. We had to sprint to the next set of loos and only just made it in time. I hope he finds all the loos locked next time he's desparate.

Overall it's well worth a visit. Though the tickets are expensive, you can usually find some kind of offer online. There are plenty of placs to eat inside though all pricey and not very good. Or you can carry your own picnic.

The best part though were the Halloween fireworks. These were beyond spectacular and went on for absolutely ages. And we all sat there on freezing grass with our mouths open for every minute of it. It was even better than the Lord Mayor's show and thats saying something.

Summary: Well worth visiting with kids; carry a picnic and don't go on the last day it's open.

Last time I went to Legoland David and Victoria Beckham were there - so if it's good enough for them... ;-)
