Advantages: Varied with a unique charm
Disadvantages: Pricey, with some extra expenses in the park.
We visited this year at the height of the summer holidays.A day out at Legoland is expensive, but on each occasion we've been the park has been very busy, which think speaks for itself. However if you want to avoid paying around £100 for a family of 4, do plan in advance and use your Tesco clubcard vouchers, making it very affordable.Another top tip is to take your own picnic its not really worth queueing for ages to buy an expensive burger or something like that if you want to make the most of the day.
Car parking tends to be a bit of a walk from the entrance, which may not be good news, and as the park is very large quite a bit of walking is usually involved during your visit, although the train ride may help with some of the steeper bits. You get a map of Legoand on entry so you can see where you'd like to go.
From the top of the park you get a spectacular view overlooking Windsor Castle and personally I think its well worth investing 20p to have a good look through one of the telescopes before making for the rides.A word of caution here, Legoland is mainly aimed at the under 8's with their accompanying adults, exciting in its way, but definitely not for a thrill seeking teenager looking for the Wall of Death or something who would be better off at Alton Towers.
Theres too much to see and do for one day,a couple of our favourites were the Viking splash ride,a journey through slow rapids in a sturdy boat, the fun is getting splashed really, you end up a bit wet, but the big people dryers at the end cost another £2, and a further £6 if you decide you'd like a photo of yourself being splashed.
The Pirates log flume is a fun ride with a steep descent.
Most children will want to achieve their Legoland Driving Licence, there are 2 versions of this, for under 6 and over 6.Both have horrendous queues.you can only lessen the wait if you pay more at the beginning to join Legolands queue "bot" system where you join a virtual queueing system, meaning you get ahead of most of the less fortunate people who have to line up.The learner drivers have a brief instruction talk and are then let loose, the cars are safe, and well supervised. At the end of their driving test they receive a licence. Our young driver remarking that the only problem she had was due to the number of "idiots" she encountered on the roads.
There are a number of other interesting rides, featuring wild animals or fancy machinary, but leave time to watch a show, they are entertaining, and provide a welcome sit down. The show we saw this year was Mr.Somethings birthday, nonsensical but fun.
And its not called Legoland for nothing, the wonderfully detailed mini versions of London, Amsterdam etc. are worth a visit. These are working models, you can watch cars, and ferries unloading. You can see even tiny milk bottles on doorsteps.Legoland has a unique charm of its own, which is why at the end of the visit, hopefully having managed to miss the shop on the way out you drive away happy that you have enjoyed a good day out.
Summary: Worth visiting
