Advantages: Passport ticket
Disadvantages: Over priced takeaway food
Hi,
Spent just over two weeks last July at Longleat, we stayed at the Caravan Club site situated within the Longleat Estate and only a five min walk to the attractions.
We bought passport tickets and decided to spend several days (five in total) taking our time to see everything.
The safari was excellent. A tip if you don't stop before the girafes don't dispair just go around again before starting the next section. We missed out the monkey section due to horry stories by other campers. You can stop and feed the deer (you must stay in your car) they are very friendly. If you have a dog there are free kennels at the start of the safari.
The house was very interesting and lots of staff about to answer any questions. Lord Bath Murals were interesting, you do need to book this guided tour when visiting the house, it takes you into Lord Baths personal living area.
The safari boat was fantastic to be so close to the seals was great and one of the hippos popped up just at the right time and the gorillas were easily spotted too. Whilst on the boat you are giving a talk which is very interesting.
Motion Simulators I didn't go on due to back problems but the rest of the family did and said it was very good.
Pets corner the usual animals, managed to stroke a ferret and the parrot show is worth a watch.
Longleat railway, on our trip was a steam engine and a very enjoyable trip.
Butterfly gardens hubby said it was very nice lots of very beautiful butterflys.
Hedge Maze, my kids found the middle before us, it seemed to take us ages but was a lot of fun.
Postman Pats Village great for the little ones my two where a bit old for it.
Adventure Castle and Blue Peter Maze. My two love it, loads for them to do and an area for smaller children to. Plenty of seats for parent to sit and watch kids, toilets and samll cafe. I found the Blue Peter Maze interesting as there where loads of questions and answers from when I watched the the programme (sad ahy?)
Old Joes Mine, I didn't go in but my hubby and son did. The keeper went in with them at the same time so they asked lots of question and thought it was very interesting and the bats were flying about.
We vistied the gardens in the evening taking a stroll from the caravan site. Dogs allowed on a lead.
Personally I think longleat is great value for money and if you shop at tesco you can swap your club card vochures for longleat entrance fee.
If you don't manage to see all the attractions you can return with your passport any time during that season.
Will go again in a few years.
The only down point is the prices in the food outlets rather too expensive so would avoid.
If you own a caravan, motor home or trailer tent the Longleat Caravan Club site is excellent.
Summary: Give yourselves plenty of time to enjoy.

- 01/02/06 Welcome to dooyoo. I would strongly recommend that you follow Proxam's advice and check out the tips on writing reviews. While this one was good in explaining the advatages and disadvantages of the park (and had a lot more detail in it than most people's first reviews!) it could be improved by writing in full sentences rather than bullett points, for example, and by giving information such as prices and opening hours. |
