Advantages: A fantastic park full of fun and Chinese culture

Disadvantages: Takes you a while to get round the park it's so huge

Ocean Park is a fantastic theme park and zoo to visit in Hong Kong. On our week stay in Hong Kong we wanted to visit one of the theme parks and went for Ocean Park over Disneyland as we'd been to Disneyland Paris and fancied something with a little bit more Chinese culture in it.

The park is absolutely huge and is located on a headland on the south tip of the west side Hong Kong Island and is split by a mountain separating two sides of the park. There are so many things to do including big thrill rides, small rides for children, spectacular shows, or visit all the animals.

Marine Land
An exciting place for all, Marine Land is home to all sorts of sea attractions including an aquarium full of thousands of fish, sharks and rays; the Ocean Theatre where you can see a spectacular dolphin show; the Pacific Pier which is full of fun and friendly seals and sea lions; and stunning jelly fish displays.

Adventure Land
Make your way from Marine Land to Adventure Land on the Ocean Park Escalator - the second longest outdoor escalator in the world. This land is full of fun rides including the spinning Space Wheel, splashing Raging River and the runaway Mine Train which whizzes you out over the sea.

Headland Rides
This land is full of some of the biggest rides, the main one being The Dragon rollercoaster.

Lowland Gardens
To get to the Lowland area of the park you have to get a cable car from Marine Land. Although a little scary being up so high and suspended by only a thin wire, this is an amazing experience with stunning views as you travel over the mountain and sea which stand in between the two sides of the park. The main attraction on this side of the park is the Giant Panda Habitat where you can see these gorgeous Chinese animals in their enclosures. The SkyFair is also a popular attraction for children full of fair and circus rides and acts.

Other lands are Amazing Asian Animals and Tai Shue Wan Entrance which are filled with a weird and wonderful array of animals. Whiskers Harbour is the children's land which is full of lots of children's fun and rides as well as the Dolphin University, home to the baby dolphins of the park, where you can watch them swimming and learning tricks.

There are many great food and refreshment places here for you to dine in ranging from up-market restaurants, cafes and food kiosks. The food kiosks were best for us just to grab a quick bite from while taking in the attractions, offering pizza, chicken, hot dogs, chips, Chinese cuisine, snacks, ice cream, drinks and even a McDonalds.

The easiest way to get to the park is by the Citybus which departs from either Admiralty MTR Station or Central Pier which leave roughly every 15 minutes. Adult admission costs 208 Hong Kong Dollars (£16) and child admission costs $103 (£8). You can purchase tickets either from the park entrances or when you board the Citybus.

This was one of our best days in Hong Kong as the park is full of so much fun and enjoyment and gives you an exciting day away from all the sightseeing and the hustle of bustle of the city. The Chinese culture is very much apparent here which makes this a real great thing to do rather than the western styles of Disneyland.
