River Country was the first water park built at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando Florida. It opened in June 1976. It is located on the shores of Bay Lake and was part of Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. The theme matched this area of rustic wilderness with rocks and manmade boulders.

The pool was basically a part of Bay Lake but was sectioned off by a dam. The dam was made out of a material that would filter out a lot of the muck and rubbish in the main lake and let the rest in.
The park was very small and only had a handful of rides. These were:
Whoop 'n' Holler Hollow - two water slides, 260 ft (79 m) and 160 ft (49 m) long that emptied into Bay Cove (Bay cove also had a tire swing, a boom swing, a rope climb, and a T-bar drop)
Slippery Slide Falls, two water slides that emptied into Upstream Plunge
White Water Rapids, a 330 foot long inner tube river.

River country on November 1, 2001. With the addition of Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach the park was not good enough to compete. Put it needed a lot of renovation. A lot of people hope it would re open but on January 20, 2005 we were told River Country would remain closed permanently.

This was a great park that I love to visit. It make you feel at one with nature and back to the old day where things were simple and technology, high speed a super tall rides did not matter. This was a great park and is sadly missed.

Summary: Good old fashioned fun
