Advantages: Great rides, unique experiences
Disadvantages: You may come up against big queues for rides depending on when you go.
Universal Studio's Islands of Adventure in Orlando is an awesome theme park. It has rides based upon cartoon characters and films.
Within 'Islands of Adventure' there are 5 themed islands, Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon, Jurassic Park, The Lost Continent, Seuss Landing and will be adding a 6th island for 2010, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, even tho Harry Potter is an Warner Brothers franchise.
Islands of Adventure was opened in May 1999 as an expansion to the original Universal Studio's theme park the other side of the Hard Rock cafe.
I visited Universal Studio's May 2007, and had a fantastic time. We picked up a 14 day orlando 'Flexi ticket' which enabled us to visit both Universal theme parks + 3 other orlando theme parks. So we could go as many times as we liked in that 2 week period.
My hi-lights of the Islands of Adventure were 'The Hulk' coaster, mainly becuase of the start. The very beginning of the coaster doesn't start with you sitting in your place, and chugging up to the top of the 1st drop, you start from a stationary period and get fired out of a tunnel straight into a double loop, which I think i've head is similar to the lauch of an F-14 jet. Truely awesome.
There is also a Spiderman ride, which was superbly done, it's a 3-d similator that really makes you feel as though you are on a coaster.
The Jurassic park island is great fun if you're a fan of the film. You enter by going through the bigs gates from the film, with the music playing. Inside there are plenty of rides based upon happenings from the film. There are also photo oppotunities with dinasours that move and make noises. I think i'm correct in saying that they are the same one's they used in the movie, but i could be wrong.
In the Lost Continent islands you have the Dueling Dragons coasters. They are a pair of coasters that run simultaniously and come very close to each around the way, which makes for a very unique and exciting experience.
I loved visiting Islands of Adventure, it was one of my favourite theme parks that i visited while in Orlando, we were luckily enough to very rarely have to wait for more than 30mins for a ride. i'd recommend it to anyone.
