Advantages: Slides that push you upwards

Disadvantages: Scary atmosphere maybe

The Wild Wadi water park is situated in between the famous 7* Burj Al Arab hotel and the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, it is on the seafront and is the only themed amusement park in the United Arab Emirates. It is roughly 25 minutes from the city centre.

The park entrance fee is £35approx (depending on exchange rate) and although it is pricey it is for the whole day, although food and drinks are not included. There are lockers at the front of the park as you walk in and they are quite big, big enough to have all your clothes and a bag in anyway.

There are 6 restaurants throughout the park to choose from, they offer burgers and chips, pizza, salad, ice creams and refreshments, like any theme park, food is quite pricey but nice, I had some chips and really enjoyed them, we were drinking more than anything due to the heat and obviously we didn't want to get sun stroke or de-hydrated.

There are 5 shops on site as well, offering souvenirs and swimming costumes and all your water needs including towels, goggles etc. Personally we weren't bothered and didn't buy anything.

The biggest worry I had was keep cash on us, but as you enter you are given a waterproof band to wear on your wrist and you can buy anything from food to gifts on it, and settle the account at the end of the day. It is a great idea and then you don't have to worry about going back to the lockers to get cash or worse still losing money on any of the slides.

The park itself has 30 rides and is advertised as the only water park in the world with water slides that shoot you upwards not down. The rides include:
The Master Blaster
Jumeirah Sceirah
Flowrider
Juha's Journey
Breakers Bay
Wadi Wash
Flood River
Ring Rides
Juha's Dhow and many more.

We visited the park in August and it opened at 10am and closed quite late, 8pm, by this time it's dark and the Burj Al Arab is all lit up, which is an amazing site especially as we were running around below it.

The only thing I would say is perhaps don't wear your skimpiest bikini, I wore a rainbow bikini that wasn't in hindsight the best idea, due to the heat (50 degrees) you can imagine we dumped our towels in a locker at the entrance as we thought we'd dry off in the sun, we did. However the locals, are mostly Muslim and the women actually wear full burka's or wet suits (in 50 degrees of heat) in the water and around the water park in general. So perhaps the guys just aren't used to women's flesh but boy they don't mind making you feel uncomfortable about it.

I am not complaining or moaning as I know the culture is vastly different the only problem being my ignorance and completely forgetting if I'm honest where I was and acting like I would in the UK or somewhere less different to the UK. Anyway it can be very intimidating, I personally didn't feel comfortable and would advise girls to cover up as much as possible, it can be scary.

My only disappointment about this park particularly is that some of the rides, more so the ring rides, you sit in an individual ring and when you start from the bottom you know you're all heading up in the same direction, on some rides though you get mid way and there are different routes, it is NOT GOOD when you get split up, i.e. Me up one and my boyfriend on another, and both ending in completely different parts of the park, and not finding each other due to both walking around and missing each other. PICK A MEETING PLACE. It was horrid and probably more scary being on my own and gawped at.

Summary: Great day out in the sun for all water babies!

Great review. I know just what you mean about never being quite sure what to wear there, even if you are aware of the cultural sensitivites.

I hate the thought of getting separated - some good advice to make a meeting point! Sounds very expensive for a day out, but then i suppose it's Dubai - maybe if I win the lottery!
