Advantages: Something for everyone.

Disadvantages: the queus!

There is little doubt in my mind that when it comes to a great day out nothing can come close to a day at Alton towers. Many think Alton towers is for thrill seekers only but it has so much more than that to offer, with rides for all ages and various other things going on throughout the park. The park itself is enormous so the fact that there is a monorail and a cable car service to get you from a to b is very useful. I myself am a thrill seeker so I love Alton towers for it huge roller coasters such as Oblivion, Nemesis and the newer ones Air and Rita queen of speed. For those of you who think once you have ridden one roller coaster you have ridden them all Alton towers will change your mind, the variation from the huge carriages on Oblivion sending you over a straight down drop to the small compact hanging carriage of air which makes you feel like you are flying is huge.

Unlike some theme parks such as Blackpool`s pleasure beach at Alton towers you pay at the gate to enter then all the rides are free, when you consider that a full day is needed to get round the park and that there are so many different rides the gate price which currently (2008) stands at £32 for adults (12 and over) or £22 for kids age 4 to 11 is not too bad unless you are an adult taking kids but have no intention of riding any rides yourself then you may feel hard done to. I have visited many theme parks over the years and although I do have a huge soft spot for Blackpool pleasure beach Alton towers is still my favourite. As well as the rides there is great scenery in the park with tons of great photo opportunities and the atmosphere is just brilliant.

The park does have its downsides though and it is only fair to mention them, If you go at the busiest time be prepared to have to stand in some ridiculous lines before getting to ride the most popular rides and quite often during the quieter time certain rides will not be in operation so check before going! That said the place is brilliant so be sure to visit!

I love alton, especially Oblivion and Spinball Whizzer. The log flume bath tub is great on a hot day too :)

I haven't been since before Air and Rita were built. I must go again soon! Susan
