Advantages: All day fun to keep the kids, old and young, busy

Disadvantages: Expensive refreshements and ticket price for children a little off

When thinking of Alton Towers it's very easy to think of Nemesis - the greatest ride in the world, Oblivion - the shortest ride in the world, Rita - the fastest ride in the world (probably not but possibly taking on Oblivion for the shortest) and The Corkscrew - the ricketiest ride in the world. But what is all too often overlooked is what lies next to this fantastic theme park - and that is a brilliant Cariba Creek Waterpark.

When looking at how I could spend a day off a couple of weeks ago, I was perusing the InterWeb and happened upon the Alton Towers website where i took a look at ticket prices (annual pass - £66!). What I also spotted was the Waterpark which is situated on the same site and only £13 (£10.40 with Morrisons staff discount). So I found myself an excuse in the form of my niece and off we popped. 2 hours later we turned up and sat in a queue, which rapidly deteriorated the closer we got to the waterpark (as everyone else veered off to see Rita).

Well, what can i say?! I'm twenty something, my neice is 12 and my mum is...well, older, and there was something for everyone. Opening from 10am until 8pm, there was no time limit, no pressure, friendly staff and brilliant rides. Complete with a kiddie pool, outdoor flume/pool and hot tubs to name just a few of the wonders. Sat in a warm pool in the rain with bubbles merrily doing their thing was an oddly satisfying experience!

They have poolside refreshments and a lot of seating (although apparently not enough, but I went towards the end of the summer holidays). Although it was busy, it wasn't uncomfortable and the rides presented a lot of fun.

The only downer was the fact that the refreshments were so expensive (as they tend to be in these places) and you couldn't take your own food. Also, any child aged from 7 years is classed as an adult price wise.

Apart from that I was very impressed and had a brilliant, very tiring day. Word of advice - get someone else to drive home!

Summary: Great day out with lots to keep you entertained
