Advantages: Laughs and thrills aplenty
Disadvantages: Pretty expensive, not a budget day out by any means
Alton Towers is I believe one of the most favourite theme parks in the country. I am in Staffordshire and therefore am lucky enough to have this parl on my doorstep.
Getting there=
As mentioned we are pretty local therefore 20 minute good drive away. We pass through the little village of Cheadle and then through the back of beyond to Alton, roads are ok for the sensible careful drivers, they are not very good in the winter rain and snow as they are very bendy and uphill so take care on your journey.
Arriving/Tickets=
Massive easily located car parks, youare guided into the correct flow of spaces, £5 all day parking unfortunately so plan this in to your budget. Short walk to Monorail that takes you into the park which is where the day really begins, big and clean inside, it's brill and takes you into the outer area of the main park. You get to the little holding area for the visitors, queue for tickets on the left, this is the most expensive way to go though make sure you look for deals online and lastminute.com, got my tickets cheaper there. It is very expensive to go to Alton Towers, £35 per adult on last visit so research before you go.
Making your way round=
Very easy for people of all abilities I think, fine for taking prams around, the park is huge and therefore you can take skyrides across the park which are like rides in themselves, this is by far the best way to get around unless you like to walk miles. believe me it's a big place!
Rides=
Absolutely loads to choose from for all ages. The park is split into several themes. The latest ride is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which is fun for all the family. The bigger rides are immense, and there is of course the chance to purchase ride photos, keyrings etc at the end of each thrill.
Toilets=
Always clean and spacious buildings.
Eating and drinking=
There are several places dotted around, small refreshment kiosks and vending machines, several good restaurants, we find the best is the pizza and pasta buffet by Runaway Mine Train. Now this place was Pizza Hut up until about a year ago and to be honest I think it's the same food. Best value place to eat on the park we loved the food, gorgeous.
Hotel=
Not stayed here BUT works christmas party was here so seen the whole place and my colleagues who stayed over enjoyed it. The room rates are dear, the rooms are nice and have everything you need though, definitely a must if coming a good distance to Staffordshire, of course the 2nd day could be spent at Splash Landings (again not been here).
Last time we went it was raining torrentially all day, had a blast still but was chilled and wet all day which isn't great fun, make sure you prepare for the worst, at least take a lightweight poncho or coat unless of course it's the height of summer in which case, excellent!!
Have a great time if you do decide to visit, well worth it.
Summary: Enjoy your visit!!
