Advantages: great rides, a day of fun, worth the money

Disadvantages: nothing

I went to Alton Towers last week for a fun day out trip. The car journey was ok as it was sign posted well. There is a reason why I went here. I had gone to Thorpe Park Holiday Centre in Cleethorpes thinking Thorpe Park was nearby and then when I asked someone where it was they said it is in Surrey. Oh well, that was my plans ruined and my day and a blonde moment. I had to think for my next day what I could do and then I thought of Alton Towers it was only a couple of hours away. So exactly as I thought I went to Alton Towers.

It was a very busy summer day all of the children on their last days of school visitng here for an end of term trip and it was also very hot. It is terrible being at a theme park in summer time because it is so crowded and the queues are very busy.

I think I did very well going on all of the main attractions in my 6 hours of being there. I would have been one hour earlier but I took a wrong turn off and nearly ended up in Birmingham.

Once parked I got on the monorail and then paid for my tickets, grabbed a map and got going. From the signs near the entrance, queueing would be nearly 2 hours for Air and Nemesis so that put me off thinking to get on those rides I would only have 2 hours of my day left.

Firstly I went on the Runaway Mine Train to get me into the rollercoaster mood, which was quite fun. Just a rollercoaster where you need to hold on, no upside down loops. I waited 20 minutes which wasn't bad.

The next place I decided to go to was The Haunted House. This was for once not a pathetic attempt to scare people, some parts I did cover my eyes at. The holograms are really good and this was a great ride. I waited 30 minutes but it was worth it.

Next I deicded I better go to one of the main attractions so I was brave and stepped into the line for Air. The newest attraction for 2002. While standing in the line watching it looks really scary and by the time I got to the end of the lin
e I was really nervous. I sat in my seat and was strapped in and the everyone's chairs lifted up backwards so that they were facing the ground. This was a weird feeling and then as the ride moved through all of the loops and turns I really did feel relaxed like I was flying and I loved it. I wanted to go on again but couldn't be bothered waiting. I bought my photo for this. It was a very safe ride and that's the best thing about this theme park. Air is definitely something everyone should experience and the queue was only 1 hour which wasn't bad at all. The ride only lasts about 1 minute.

By now I decided to relax and go on a ride where I would get wet. So I headed over to the Congo River Rapids. The wait was 45 minutes but it was great and I walked off soaked. The ride was quite long and worth it.

After that I decided to go on the Corkscrew. This is another rollercoaster but with corkscrew type turns and loops. This was great fun but it wasn't as comfortable as other rollercoasters the way I was strapped in. It does turn a lot and it hurt when I turned because of the way the rollercoaster seats are. This was quite good. I waited about 10 minutes for this the line was fast moving.

Once I finished that ride I went to more attractions that were better. I went on the BlackHole which is like a rollercoaster in the dark. This isn't at all scary and it was quite good. The wait was about 15 minutes. I hate the way the seating is in this ride but apart from that it was a good ride.

I had to go on Oblivion after this even though I was scared about the thought of dropping vertically. The wait was about 45 minutes which was quite quick. I didn't want to go to the front of the two rows so I went on the second row. It holds you at the top for about 3 seconds while you hear the words 'Don't Look Down' then you fall vertically into a mini rollercoaster. Then it slows down and you realise how brave you are
for living through a vertical drop.

The park was about closing by this time so I had t run from this side of the park to the other to get on Nemesis. I made it just in time and got on it, the wait was about 5 minutes, so this is the best time to get on this ride. Nemesis is really fast and before you know it you have turned so much that it has ended but it was great fun.

That was the end of my day and I spent some time in the arcade and looked in the shop at the end then got the monorail to the car park. It was a brilliant day and my second time being there and it was great.

Alton Towers is one of the best theme parks in the UK and they are always original with their ideas for rides.

There are different areas of this theme park.
GLOOMY WOOD, KATANGA CANYON, MERRIE ENGLAND, THE GARDENS, FORBIDDEN VALLEY, UG LAND, CRED STREET, X-SECTOR, ADVENTURE LAND, STORYBOOK LAND, OLD MacDONALD'S FARM & TOWERS STREET.

At the park you can skip the queues if you get there earlier and get a time booked to go back, you can also do it through your phone but you pay for it.

This is a brilliant day out and the queueing didn;t even spoil it. This is a park where there is something for everyone.

Super op. I have been a few times.I really object to the queing though! I do think they ought to offer a reduced price ticket for those of us that have to take kids and cant go on the rides (I have a weak heart so am not allowed on anything so stimulating as the rides you described!) It would be easy to stamp your hand as a non rider so that people could not abuse the system. It is a very good day out there though. Kim :-0
