Advantages: So much fun learning about animals on a working farm

Disadvantages: not open all year around

Cruckley Animal Farm near Driffield (East Yorkshire) and is an approved rare breed centre and a working farm. It has been open to the public for the last 20 years.

When you get there you park your car in the free car park and wonder over to the counter to pay for entering the farm. St this point there are so many Wellington boots available free to use, as long as you leave you own footwear as replacement. When paying you can also buy bags of animal feed for 10p a bag.

Then you walk through to the barn which has pigs, cows and goats in it. If you time it right you catch the daily milking demonstration (10.45am). Another activity available at certain times is helping to feed the lambs and kidd goats.
While walking around the farm you can also feed or pet animals such as sheep, goats, and pigs. When you enter the hatchery you can also handle the fluffy chicks.

Once you have walked through the barns and other yard areas you enter the paddock where there are free roaming sheep and goats all of which love to be fed. They do sometimes get a bit excited and race up to you to get you to feed them. This can get a bit too much for the very young children and they may want to be picked up.

As you leave the paddock area you enter on a 1.1/2 mile walk around the fields to a lake area with a walk around it and then you talk a stroll back to the paddock area along the return path. You can miss this bit out if it is a bit much or a walk for the very young but you will miss out on seeing some of the animals in the fields.

At the exit to the paddock is the gift shop and cafe. the gift shop has many toys and Cruckley farm branded items to remember the day by. The cafe serves hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and ice-cream.

Opposite the cafe is the children's play area with tree walk and slide, toilets, picnic area, an area where the rabbits and gineapigs are.

My kids really really love this place. In fact they love it that much we had one of my daughter's birthday parties here. That was great fun and they made us feel very welcome. It cost £7 per child but it was well worth it. For this we got

It was a very special day and my girls loved it.

The Farm also takes school visits. This year they were open 10.30am - 5.30pm 20th March - Sunday 21st September Daily and then weekends only until the end of October. This year they also opened the week of the half term 25th October to 2nd November.

This place is a great place to go with the whole family as there is so much to do to entertain the kids and yourself. Me and my two daughters really do love going and have lost count of how many times we have been.
