Newest Review: ... as others have said looks wonderful from the outside and still does as you step inside and excitely collect your tickets. The zoo itself however wasn't quite the wonderful day out I had hoped for, we did the whole zoo within about 3 hours which for the money we paid didn't impress me much. It was easy to find your way around the zoo, it has to be said, with clear sign posts and a map handed ... more

Back in July my partner and I took a trip to Edinburgh for a concert, it was the middle of summer yet it rained constantly almost putting a dampner on the whole weekend yet we tried to keep our spirits up with a trip to the zoo. I had read about the zoo long before our little holiday and on hearing that penguins were present, well that was it! we had to visit. I'm a huge penguin fan and would travel miles to see them in the flesh so to speak. We visited the zoo on the Saturday taking the bus from the City Centre. Now we knew it wasn't going to be a cheap day out but even we were shocked at the entry prices once we got there. £14 each! Still we ...  Read the complete review

A trip to the zoo is one of those days out that kids always love, the last time I visited Edinburgh zoo was 10 years ago with the toddler group. The toddler group used to go there every year, on my first visit I became upset at the conditions of some of the big cats, especially the snow leopard which paced back and forwards in its enclosure looking utterly miserable. The animal was still there pacing a year later and I decided to boycott the zoo afterwards. I had read in the newspapers that the zoo had made massive improvements over the past few years especially to the big cat enclosures so I decided to put my misgivings aside to accompany a group of friends to the zoo ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on Edinburgh Zoo

DON'T HAVE A CHILDRENS PARTY AT EDINBURGH ZOO.
It is very expensive £15 per child and total hassle for the parents. Nowhere to leave presents, no help taking children round the zoo, not advised that the restaurant we had booked with the soft play was closed, ended up very squished in busy cafe. No party bags - just a few toys stuck in the picnic box. Total shambles.

We recently went on a long weekend away to Edinburgh, and we each chose an activity while we were up there that the other couldn't say no to. I chose the Edinburgh Dungeon, my fiancee chose the zoo. The zoo is easy to reach by public transport, there are a number of buses which leave from Princess Street and George Street, and take about 20 minutes. Make sure you pick up a zoo leaflet for each member of your party before going (available at the TIC on Princess Street) as these save you £1 per person. Even with these we paid £26 to get in, which I thought was pretty steep. The zoo is on a very, very steep hill. So if you have knee issues, don't ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Edinburgh Zoo: Excellent zoo but not quite 5 stars? (405 words)

Edinburgh Zoo is one of the places where I first took my wife following her move upto Scotland as she always used to love going to her local zoo where she lived near Birmingham and we have been back a few times...so why go in the first place? Edinburgh Zoo is well located and fairly centralised in the city with buses easy to catch from the shopping area of the city and be dropped off just accross from the zoo itself but it is also not too longer walk from Edinburgh Haymarket train station and a taxi from either of the train stations is not too expensive and very quick. The zoo itself is relatively expensive with it normally costing about £25-£30 for two ...  Read the complete review
