Advantages: Many animals
Disadvantages: Up hill
I have visited Edinburgh Zoo a few times now, first when I was very little with my family then again last year with my partner and his parents and then again in March this year 2009.
Of course I can not remember much of it when I was a little girl, but when I was there last year summer 2008 I felt a little unease because I felt the animals were placed in closures which were far too small for them to live in. Especially the Polar Bear.
When I visited only a few weeks ago in March 2009 with my two nieces friend and her little girl. I was happier with the way the zoo was laid out and the space some of the animals had. Some of them were still placed in very small spaces I feel for the types of animals they are and for what they are used to. The still felt the polar bear was placed onto a island type enclosure which is far too small for him/her and always seems to look unhappy. I feel the same about about the enclosures for some of the cats ie the snow Leopards and Leopards.
I love the zoo and the many animals that the zoo has in the one place.

The Zoo from the beginning of the park is based on a hill, for those with difficulty walking or with prams I would advice to get the hilltop safari bus which takes you around all the animals and you can come on and off as you please there is many of these going around the zoo throughout the day.
The zoo has many animals from Sealions to Wild Lions from Polar Bears to Wild Dogs and Cats. Its animals include : Zebras, Sealions, Penguins, Polar Bear(1), Many Big cats, Rhinos, Chimpanzee,Gelada baboon, Guinea pig
, Jaguar , Maned wolf, Hippos to name a few so as you can see the zoo has plenty of animals to go around and have a visit/look at.
I would recommend a whole day for the zoo because it is very large and there is plenty of attractions at the zoo to keep your day filled.
At 2.30pm the zoo will have the famous penguin parade which is always very popular so arrive early to avoid disappointment, tho sometimes the pengiuns do you not to come out so it is your luck on the day as to how good it is.
The zoo also has many restruants and parks which kids can play and enjoy. I have not eaten in any of the restruants as always take my own packed lunch which always taste just as nice if I do say so. Around the zoo are carts which sell juice and ice cream for those hot warms days and you just want to cool down.
The zoo has a bird enclosure: Rainbow Landings is our new and exciting interactive walk-through rainbow lorikeet exhibit.
This amazing exhibit is home to a flock of up to 50 beautiful birds and delivers some 'up close and personal' experiences for our visitors. Nectar is available for purchase and these inquisitive, colourful birds land on you to drink the nectar!
These birds originate from Australia and the enclosure also houses a variety of exotic plants of Australian origin giving the enclosure an authentic appearance.
It also has Budongo Trial which you can walk around seeing all the chimpanzee and monkey. This is very enjoyable.
I would recommend the zoo to all ages.
Summary: A place to visit
