Flambards Village (Helston, Cornwall)
Advantages: Theme park, Victorian Village, Britain in the Blitz
Disadvantages: short opening hours off peak
Flambards theme park is a small family theme park situated in Helston. Soon as you get into Helston just follow the brown signs which will point you in the right direction.
You can also catch a bus from Truro and other locations which will take you there.
Not only is flam bards a theme park there is also the victorian village, this is made up of several winding streets which is set up to represent old victorian streets, there are stuffed horses with carriages, shops and houses that you can look in, sign posts and victorian dresses people.
The most well known part of this village is the time capsule which is a chemist which has been transferred piece by piece and layed out the same of an old chemist, all the artifacts are genuine and there are lots of cobwebs
Across the way from the victorian village there is the Britain in the Blitz exhibition, this is made up of old war planes, this section is very dark and all the curbs on the cobbled streets are white so you can get around. There is a constant air raid signal in the exhibition, there is also an air raid shelter so you can experience what it was like in the war, this is all very educational but also fun at the same time.
The theme park has a wide range of rides for all ages, there is even a section for toddlers only, this is known as Ferdi's funland. Ferdi is the zoo's children's mascot, children can have there photos taken with Ferdi the bear.
There are three main thrill rides, the hornet roller coaster, The thunderbolt and the Extreme force, which spins 360 degrees at high speed!
There are also some arcades with various games.
The park also has the really wild experience where at several times through the day there are animal displays which parrots, lizards and spiders, lots of displays and the chance to get up close and personal.
At the centre of the zoo is the Science park, this is a dome attraction, inside there are lots of scientific experiments, this is a hands on exhibition where you can experiment with gravity, speed, water power etc.
Flambards has plenty of facilities, there are plenty of food venues, a food hall, a café and stalls through out the park. There is also a special picnic area.
There is a small gift shop with souveniers of the theme park, the Victorian village and Britain in the Blitz !
The entry prices are:
Children - £3.75
If your heading to the theme park in the summer then I recommend you picking up a Cornish guardian-the local paper as there are always discount vouchers in the paper in the summer and Flambards is always one of them.
The park is open between 10am and 6pm, but the park is sometimes open later and some times closes earlier, depends on the time of the year. The park is always closed in January every year, this is where new rides are normally added.
There is plenty of free car parking.
Flambards really is a fantastic day out, if your on holiday in Cornwall then make sure you make this a day out!
Summary: A great family day out with plenty to do.
