Advantages: Planety of rides for younger children, No extra fees to pay once inside, Easy to get around , and lots of picnic/resting points !!
Disadvantages: Poor food, Dont go in bad weather, Needs a bigger hardstanding for car park
We went to the Gullivers World theme park in warrington , as a theme park for younger visitors it has plenty of small rides and attractions our children always enjoy there day there , living fairly close to the park as we do , we go there each year mostly for birthdays and special occasions such as Halloween and Xmas , as the previous reviews deal with the theme park in general i would like to review the special themes days/weeks they do .
Halloween week and guy fawkes night , the park lays on a special week with later opening hours and a fairly immpressive firework display as the finale for the last day of the Halloween week and the guy fawkes night , the park is decorated with all manner of spooky decorations ( which are left up for the guy fawkes night !!) but all this really adds to the atmosphere and everything looks great when it gets darker , they have a themed show mostly dancing and miming to songs in the center of the lake on a stage , all lit up by spotlights , for halloween week there is a concession for arriving in fancy dress ( £1 off entry fee ) but not for the guy fawkes night , also all rides are open for these specials which makes it seem more value for your money than usual .
Whilst watching the fireworks on the guy fawkes night there was a power cut through the park , everywhere was plunged in to darkness , with only a small light near the train was left on , everything was due to finish at 8pm when because of this it finished at 7.30 , emergency exits were opened to cope with the queues of people trying to get out , we just waited till it was almost empty to leave , staff were helpful but seemed confused themselves , but it was so late on in the day that it didn't really matter to us we still had a great day , and we went back for christmas
Ive never known this happen before anyway , one word of warning though is the traffic situation afterwards , there are a lot of cars leaving at the same time out of one car pa
it , my advice would be to wait have a cup of tea and let it clear before going ( if your in no rush that is ) our car doesn't like traffic jams so we had no choice .
Christmas week , this by far is the best value for money , we decided to go on than 23rd decemeber , the weather was terrible it seemed to rain all day , anyway we waited till 4pm to go and got in for £4 each instead of £9.50 each thanks to vouchers in our local paper
which staff at the park told us about, by that time there was no rain , and we could enjoy all the rides which were on , again it is all decorated with an xmas theme a huge tree as you go in and a free cup of punch for the adults .
They also have a Xmas firework display which was far better than the guy fawkes one !! and they looked fantastic over the lake , we all really enjoyed it ( probably me the most )
it was finished off by a visit to santas grotto again this was huge and our kids were blown away by it they even got to choose a free toy each , a nice touch i thought !
As covered in previous reviews i would also agree the food is not great and i would recommend taking a packed lunch or nipping out to local McDonalds ,
and flask of tea for the adults is a good idea unless you like to spend a £1 for a cup when you get in there ( i dont )
We go to this theme park a few times a year , living so close as we do , its hard to see were they spend on it , over the last 2 years The Lost World attraction and the Adventure World have been there biggest improvements both of these attractions i think the park needed they are definitely the best areas of the park ( most modern as well ) but they were both closed at Xmas , but i think this was to accomadate the grotto .
Each year the entry price increases marginally , personally i begrudge
paying the fee for myself as i do not go on any of the rides , just like to see my kids enjoy it and this seems to be what most adul
y for .
Go on a nice day with good weather , its definitely not a place to go when its raining , one thing to note with gullivers is many of the rides are outdoors and if it rains there are no refunds or concessions which i personally think is unfair , given the weather situation in this country , but in the event of rain they do sell ponchos for a £1 each .
