Zoo's are for kids aren't they?

Advantages: many animals to see, in the heart of the capital
Disadvantages: quite expensive
The zoological gardens at ZSL London Zoo are the oldest in the world, opening in 1828. At present there are over 700 different species of animal housed at the zoo, situated in the outer circle of London's Regents Park. Its amazing to think that all these animals are in the capital.
The main exhibits:
Gorilla Kingdom - the newest feature at the zoo, opened in Easter 2007. I though this was going to be really great but when we arrived I learned there were only three gorillas currently in the enclosure, so it was rather disappointing.
Butterfly Paradise - something that the young and old alike will love. This is basically a walk-through tunnel with entrances at either end allowing people in but not the butterflies out. There are hundreds in there and they are literally flying around you. I thought this was great.
The Aquarium - There are three of these, each housing different types of fish. I thought the aquarium was ok but you don't really come to a zoo to see fish, more like the monkeys and tigers for me. Excellent opportunities to get some nice photo's in here though because the fish are wonderfully coloured.
Meet the Monkeys - brilliant! A 16,000 sq ft enclosure recreating the Bolivian rainforest.
BUGS - biodiversity underpinning global survival for those who didn't already know!! Thousands of creepy crawlies, over 140 species.
Penguins - these little fellas are great! They do a few live shows with the penguins everyday in which they are fed and a member of the zoo team takes a microphone a tells you all about them; its amazing how fast they can swim!!
I really enjoyed the day we had at London Zoo, although it was rather expensive. The queues were small and there was plenty to see. I would really recommend London zoo to families with small children because there is a children's zoo too which includes the pet care centre and the paddock.
