Advantages: inexpensive fun for all the family
As we live quite near to Monkey World, we have been regular visitors since the park opened . This week, we have once again visited the park, and were delighted to find that the work that was being carried out during our last visit had been finished, and that once again the Cronins have excelled themselves in providing a safe haven for all the monkeys that have been so badly mistreated.
Monkey World was first set up to provide a safe haven for chimps rescued from beach photographers in Spain. Anneka Rice was challenged to build the first Chimp houses in her challenge Anneka programme, and those pavillions are still central to the park.
The park provides a great day out for all the family, and when the kids get bored of looking at monkeys, they can try out some of the wonderful climbing frames in the play area - many of them are similar to the ones in the monkey enclosures, so there is invariably one bright spark who is trying to copy his primate cousins by hanging upside down by one leg so supervision is the key word when in the play areas. All the entrance fee is ploughed straight back into the park, so you can be reassured that it is money well spent - but saying that, it has actually been the cheapest of all our trips this summer costing less than £20 for a family ticket. They even cater for the modern family - offering a single parent ticket - one adult and 2 kids. Check out their website at http://www.ape-rescue.co.uk and if you are ever down in Dorset I would thoroughly recommend a visit.
