Advantages: Rides for all ages

Disadvantages: Some rides are a little too scary - for me!

Situated at Chertsey just a few miles off the M25 Thorpe Park is a great fun park to visit - even if it is 200+ miles and 3 1/2 hour drive from Plymouth.

Until last year I always bought Merlin Annual Passes for my former family, and will be doing something similar this year - but on a different scale. The older passes included Thorpe Park, Cheesington World of Adventures (only a short drive from Thorpe Park) and Alton Towers and we'd visit each of them at least once a year.

Of the 3, pushing my former wife round this park was the preferred option and at over 20 stone was quite a task despite being relatively flat.

Over the 4+ years that I'd visited very little had changed until recently when the train that used to go around the farm area (now closed) and the boat accross the lake had stopped.

On the left as you walk into the park, there's some rides for the younger ones - my daughter loved the flying rides, and on the other there's a pretty high slide with dinghys to sit in.

My favourite ride is Tidal Wave which is literally about 150 ft high with a mass area of water at the bottom, and believe me you won't find anything to get you wetter! The best part is when you hit the water and a wall of water heads towards you - it's great. My other favourites are the log flume, rapids and teacups which I share with my 5 year old daughter.

Like many other parks of this nature they constantly try to improve what they offer, and there's now a small roller coaster and a 300+ ft loop for those that feel that way inclined (sorry for the pun).

I'm not in to the more scary rides, but there's something for all and is well worth a visit. For those that pay tickets are around £35, but can be bought cheaper on-line. They also offer family reductions - but you can often get a 2 for 1 offer in papers etc.

I love Thorpe Park - I just don't like the hassle of getting there

Summary: For a great day out, you won't beat this for value
