Advantages: Cheap to buy Looks Good and Reliable

Disadvantages: Running costs on labels

No one should be without a dymo labelwriter. I think that in a previous review they said about the high running costs but it all depends on what you do with it. If you are sending a moderat ammount of labels then its great. If you send a really high volume then its not really worth it. This is due to the barcode reader that is installed on the dymo. I have heard a lot of positive and negative comments on this. The reason for it is that only original dymo labels can be used. While these come at a premium i would say that it is worth the money. If you look at it from a business point of view, you want your company image to look the best, therefore you dont mind paying a bit extra to have much higher quality labels. Dymo found that the compatible labels are very poor quality and i have tested them myself and they really are awful. Some people might disagree on the grounds that their sole use is to last a few days on an envelope which is only going to be recycled or put in the bin; probably the latter of the two these days. A lot of the dymo machines were actually being returned to dymo because the compatible labels were acutally jamming in the machine and breaking it, resulting a lot of downtime per unit as it would have to be sent back to dymo for repair.
All in all the dymo label writer 400 is adequate for any small office, doctors surgery, or school. I would highly reccomend it and found that the cheapest place to buy one on the net is on ebay with a seller called oeshouse who seems to sell a lot of them. They are relativley cheap and really good bits of kit. If you do decide to get one then i would advise that you need to make the black 'carrier' really tight against the label so that the machine works. I get a lot of support questions saying that they dont work when they havent actually installed the label properly. There are many other models for a higher price. But for low budges but high running costs the 400 is for you. I wouldnt go out and buy the turbo which only has a speed advantage and i think that you would agree that you dont mind waiting 1.5 second for a label rather than spend and extra £20 to get a printer which prints in 1 second.
4/5

Summary: Great little unit
