Advantages: Smells Nice.

Disadvantages: Leaves Hair Frizzy & Prone to Grease.

Quite recently I posted a review on the Tigi Bed Head Control Freak Hair Straightener liquid foam which I received as part of a pack of hair care products. The other product in the pack was the Tigi Bed Head Control Freak Serum which I felt it was only fair to write a review on as well. Tigi Bed Head is quite a high price brand that is usually found either in salons or online - it's not available on the shelves of Boots as it's advertised as quite a luxurious product with matching luxurious price tags too! I can remember opening the Tigi Bed Head Straight Talking pack and being excited to test out the products, although I do tend to use them at the same time there's no rule which says you should do that so for the purposes of this review I've tested it separately too to see what effect it will have on its own. So on Sunday night I was busy experimenting, all in the name of DooYoo and here's what I found...

The Control Freak Serum comes in a clear plastic bottle which is tinted a light blue / green colour due to the colour of the serum inside it. It has a light grey screw on lid which is a bit cumbersome to put back on especially when your hands are completely covered in serum! On the front of the bottle is the brand name, product name and a basic description of the product whereas the more detailed information can be found of the back. This includes things such as what the product is for, the directions of use and the ingredients too. To dispense the serum you simply need to unscrew the lid which then reveals a pointed dispenser nozzle for more accurate usage. To actually get the serum out you need to tip the bottle either on its side or upside down and squeeze it quite gently. The serum comes out easily and has a lovely salon perfumed scent to it, it's slightly gloopy, quite runny and a little sticky feeling as well.

It's recommended that you apply evenly again to damp hair for the best results so I usually towel dry my hair after my shower, comb it through and then apply the serum. So once you've squeezed out a pea sized amount of the product (this will vary depending on your hair length and thickness but don't apply too much as it can make my hair feel quite greasy and sticky) you need to dispense it between your two hands. I tend to just run my fingers through my hair, trying not to put too much around my roots to avoid grease, and concentrating more on the ends of my hair. Once I've done this I usually comb it through to try and ensure it's evenly distributed. After that the directions suggest you style it as normal which for me involves blow drying it and then using my straighteners. Apart from my hair smelling really nice when it's wet you can't really tell the serum is on although it did make my hair a tiny bit stickier.

The Control Freak Serum promises to fight the frizz, stomp the curl and control your hair at the same time... sounds like a pretty impressive product really! So what did I think of it? Well just like with the other product I rarely use it on its own, as they were packaged together I almost feel obliged to use them together. However I did use this on its own at the weekend to test it out. My thoughts were that it's really easy to use as it's dispensed easily and the directions are very straightforward. When I blow dried my hair and straightened it as normal the result was pretty straight hair but it seemed a little prone to frizz and also rather flyaway too. However when I applied a little serum the following day to try to calm it down a bit this made my hair look a little hard in places and a tad greasy too... not a good look! I'd only give this product two out of five stars when used on its own as I was put off by the grease!

So onto the final bit... what you get for your money! Well the Control Freak Serum comes in a 250ml size which seems to be quite an average size for this sort of product, I've had mine since Christmas and find I've still got about half a bottle left. As for prices well it's not an overly cheap product in terms of the other serum products I've currently got on my bathroom shelf. It can be bought for £9.18 on Look Fantastic at present or for £7.99 on Amazon. In salons it tends to retail between the £9 and the £12 mark from what I've seen in the past. There are arguably cheaper products out there and there are certainly better products out there so I won't be investing in another bottle of this serum. Much to my boyfriend's horror this might be another one to stick back up on my overcrowded bathroom shelf to grow dusty!

Thanks for reading.

Summary: A hair serum to control frizz and encourage straight hair.

That's a shame - you can't usually go wrong with Tigi.
