Advantages: deep cleaning, managable hair, smells divine

Disadvantages: so expensive

I have rubbish hair. In it?s natural state it?s fine, flyaway, and to top it all, a not very attractive shade of mousey brown. To control it is a constant battle, so I generally just let it do whatever it fancies. However, I think I may be finally winning that fight with my new shampoo? TiGi Control Freak.

I?d love to have celebrity hair, but it?s just not a possibility. I?ve come to accept that, but Control Freak really is bringing out the best in my lank locks so let me tell you what I know.

*** TiGi ***

Tigi are a well respected hair products company, who I?m sure many people have heard of, or experienced in their life. Personally I was a convert to their ?Creative Genius? styling balm, and a firm fan of ?Shine Junkie? but I?d never bought their shampoos for home use. I?d always thought VO5 was as good as it could get for my hair, and I didn?t feel that spending £8 on a shampoo would be justified. A couple of weeks ago, however, I was wandering through Castlecourt shopping Centre on Belfast and happened to wander into a store caled ?Trade Secret? which stocked all imaginable hair products at reasonable prices, so I invested in the Control Freak shampoo and conditioner. Merely because I love the smell, and it?s the same shampoo my hairdresser uses on me when I go.

TiGi were founded in 1971 to create products for Toni and Guy however, they now cater for all stylistic hairdressers, creating unique products to meet every need. Each product I?ve encountered smells good enough to eat, and certainly performs the task it is supposed to. The bottles and jars are designed to look fantastic on your dressing table. But enough about the other products, let?s review the shampoo.

*** Perfume ***

Oh, the scent is simply the most delightful pineapple smell. Each time I squeeze some out of the bottle while I?m in the shower it just reminds me of opening a bottle of fizzy pineappleade. If you aren?t into sweet smells, then I as
sume you won?t like the product. But to me, it?s divine! My boyfriend likes it too? never one to comment on looks and smells, he was standing behind me in a takeaway yesterday and announced ?your hair smells nice today!?

*** Consistency and Lather ***

A word of warning- this shampoo is of fairly thick consistency. A small squirt of the lime green ?gel? will be more than adequate to clean your hair. To begin with I found it hard to acquire a good lather in my hair, but you get used to it- I believe that because this product is gentle to your hair it doesn?t have too much detergent in it. This means it takes a little longer to work into a lather.

Although I was worried about the lack of bubbles at the start, I just rinsed the shampoo out, and conditioned as normal with great success.

*** Effectiveness ***

I wash my hair every two days, and since using this shampoo I have noticed that it is much less greasy by the end of the second day. I should perhaps try to see if I can get three ?clean? days from it, but I?m not really brave enough! Combing my wet hair is also considerably easier with my new shampoo. The comb slides through with no tangles. Without using the hairdryer to dry and style, my hair is soft and shiny, with a visible reduction in frizziness. When I do use the hairdryer, my hair gets a little frizzier, but nowhere near as flyaway as it used to be.

*** Value for Money ***

The bottle you buy for £7 is rather large, 350ml, so it is value for money. I only use tiny amounts when I wash my hair, and my two-week-old bottle still doesn?t really look as if it has been touched. I?ve checked the website and they call it a ?slickquid? formula. This is a good term for it, as it?s not quite a gel, or a liquid! Because it?s thick, a little goes a long way.

*** The Official Line ***

?The Thick lather and rich fragrance empower your presence. It will stomp the curl, and fight the frizz. Hair
will succumb to your every demand.?

Tigi?s website provides detailed information about their whole range, and what type of hair it is suitable for. In my opinion, it?s well worth a visit if you have the time, if not only to look at the original and funky packaging. www.tigihair.com You should be able to find Tigi products in a lot of local salons. (Control Freak is part of their ?Bed Head? range)

I recommend it wholeheartedly. Expensive, but worth it, if you have boring hair like me!
