Advantages: Amazing fresh fruity smell, cleans well, leaves hair shiny when combined with conditioner

Disadvantages: Expensive, and not as great as other shampoos in the Bed Head range

I own about half of the products from the Tigi Bed Head range now, so I guess it's only fair I share my experiences with the people of Ciao. I was given a tigi set as one of my Christmas presents from my boyfriend. The set included the Self Abosorbed shampoo, conditioner, and Maxxed Out hairspray. This review is on the Self Absorbed shampoo.

SELF ABSORBED SHAMPOO

Being a promotional sample size set, the bottle I have of this shampoo is smaller than full size but it keeps the same design - a clear plastic cylindrical bottle with a pop up nozzle for a cap (like a sports water bottle) which you can also unscrew to pour the very last bit out. The shampoo is a crazy orange colour.

The nozzle on the bottle is easy to pop up, even with wet hands, and the shampoo is not TOO hard to squeeze out - though it is admittedly a bit harder the nearer I get to the end of the bottle and sometimes needs unscrewing to pour out.. I generally use a blob just a bit bigger than a two pound coin. It is thick and sort of gel-like in consistency. Massaging it into my hair and scalp for about a minute produces a big rich lather, but one which is slightly soapier than some of the other tigi shampoos. My favourite ones are more creamy. However, there is one thing about this shampoo which is undeniably gorgeous - the scent! To me it smells like zesty oranges or fizzy orange Fruitang sweets (if anyone remembers those!)

When you're done with the lathering the shampoo rinses out pretty easily. Immediately after rinsing and before using shampoo it's slightly disappointing that the shampoo alone doesn't really detangle. I know you would only reasonably expect a conditioner to detangle but I find that the better tigi shampoos detangle hair even before conditioner is applied.

Given that I received this shampoo with the conditioner, I always use them together, so it's hard to separate the actions of the two, but I'll try to evaluate what I think the shampoo does on its own.

IT CLAIMS:

"Gentle enough for every day use" - I would actually disagree with this one, as I think that there are much gentler shampoos out there, and this one could end up being slightly drying if used daily.

"Deep cleansing" - Yes I think it is. It gives my hair volume, which shampoos don't if they haven't fully cleansed all the oils and dirt out of your hair.

"Repairs" - Can't really comment on this one as I have only used a small sample bottle infrequently so I don't think that would repair on its own. The conditioner may though?

"Adds shine" - It's hard to say, as I don't use this without the conditioner, but with the conditioner my hair is nice and shiny.

RESULTS

After using the shampoo, I follow with the conditioner so the results are really for both. After blow-drying my hair, it does feel sort and clean, but I can't help but feel slightly disappointed that it's not a bit softer still. Had I used this Bed Head shampoo before trying Manipulator or the Fashionista one from Tigi's Catwalk range perhaps I'd have been more impressed, but having used these I know it's not their best (and the gorgeous scent doesn't really stay on your hair that much either...shame, although my boyfriend does say my hair smells nice after this). That is not to say it's bad though, the main advantage being that it does not flatten your hair - it seems to give a bit of extra volume and body, and it does make my hair sleek enough that I can allow it to dry naturally if I want.

It keeps my hair clean for a normal amount of time, I wouldn't say it's especially long lasting or grease-inducing.

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

I don't know how much my set cost as it was a present and the promotion finished a long time ago. The standard size for this shampoo is 350ml and it'll set you back a mean £7.20 - it's expensive but if you do consider buying it remember that it lasts a LONG time if you interchange it with using other slightly cheaper shampoos.

VERDICT

This is still a very good shampoo, but when I compare it with Manipulator from the same range, or Fashionista from their Catwalk range, I don't think I'll bother buying the full size of this when my mini version runs out. If I were to buy it it'd be mainly to get another hit of that mood-lifting zesty orange smell!

Summary: A delicious smelling shampoo that keeps your hair clean slightly longer but otherwise disappoints
