Advantages: Smoothes fly aways, prevents frizz, gives shine, nice scent

Disadvantages: Price, availablity

Tigi's hair care range is one of those cult status things like Benefit or Lush that I had read so much about I simply had to try. My expectations were high, I've heard nothing but good things about Tigi and I was very excited to try out some of their products.

One of my absolute must haves is shiny, glossy hair. I've tried many products but my best results have come from using John Frieda Frizz Ease Serum before drying my hair, and finishing my style with the John Frieda Gloss Spray or alternatively the Umberto Giannini Gloss Mist. When I saw this on sale on a website I was already purchasing some other items from, I excitedly added it to my basket thinking it might just be the very best thing in the world; after all, it's a shine spray, and it's by the legendary Tigi.

After a huge delay in the postal system it finally arrived but I managed to hold out until I was going on a night out to try it. After washing and conditioning my hair, and applying my John Frieda Frizz Ease Serum (my normal pre shine spray routine), I straightened my hair and applied this product.

The first thing I noticed was the lovely melon scent. Yummy. I loved it. I asked the boyfriend what he thought and he said it smelt nice. I did however have to ask. It wasn't one of those, "mmm you smell nice, what's that?" moments. The smell also did wear off a lot quicker than I would have liked. It is a nice smell, although not as nice as the Aussie hair care range and not as long lasting either.

The product was easy to apply. Either spray all over your hair (although probably best to avoid the roots) or you can spray into your hand and smooth over your hair. It can be applied to wet or dry hair but I find it best to use as a finishing spray once the hair is already styled.

The spray did tame any fly aways and split ends and gave a smooth shiny finish. However, as you may have noticed, although I'm hardly talking this product down, I haven't fell head over heels in love with it like I do with some products. So why is this? Although it did do what a shine spray is supposed to do, it simply wasn't quite as good as John Frieda Gloss Spray or Umberto Giannini Gloss Mist. It wasn't far behind, but I guess for a product that is more expensive and comes with far more hype behind it, I was expecting it to somehow come way above these other two products (although really I don't know how anything could be better than them). I was a little disappointed that it wasn't quite as amazing as I had built it up in my head to be.

The only thing it actually did better than the other two mentioned sprays was that the fragrance was lovely, but it wasn't long lasting so I guess it's not a good enough bonus. If we're judging on ultimate shine and gloss (without any grease or heaviness) then I'm afraid the other two cheaper, more easily accessible products win.

That said there isn't really any negatives to this Tigi product. It fulfils all it's claims; it's lightweight, smooths fly-aways, prevent frizz and gies silky shiny hair. It really does do all these things so there isn't necessarily anything not to like.

It does say it also conditions the hair, so I guess this is an added bonus above the other two products and it is also anti static which is great. It is apparently water resistant, which I'm really not sure what that's meant to mean. Okay I know what water resistant means, but I don't see how that particularly benefits this product. I will say that I unfortunately had to queue in the rain and wind for half an hour after doing my hair and although it didn't look nearly as good as before I set out, it did still look passable for the rest of the night.

The product definitely is lightweight, it doesn't weigh the hair down or make it look greasy at all.

All in all it is a good product, I can't really say anything bad about it, I guess I just didn't love it as much as I expected to. I bought mine on sale from asos.com for £7 although it is now out of stock. The product is only available either in salons or on the internet. The average price is around £9-£11.

I do think this is a good product but I'm not sure it is worth the £11 price tag. The other two shine sprays I have mentioned retail at around half the price and are available in the shops so I can't see that I would buy this particular product again, although I am quite happy to use it until it runs out.

Summary: It's a nice product but there is better out there for a lower price
