Asda Smart Price Toaster
by passionate88 I bought this toaster when I moved away from home to university. As a student, I wanted something cheap but that worked effectively. I paid £4 for this toaster about 4 months ago. The toaster has 2 slots for your bread but they are not the widest slots i've ever seen, meaning if you like to buy really thick bread, it may get stuck. They ... are also not very long, therefore if you buy big loaves of bread, you may have to cut the crusts off to allow the bread to fit into the toaster. One of the two functions present on the toaster is an eject button for those times when you select the wrong number on the dial, and that dreaded smoke rises from the toaster. As just mentioned, the toaster also has a dial allowing you to choose how brown you want your toast. It is numbered from 1 to 6. 1 is lightly toasted, and 5 is pretty much burnt. One downside to the toaster was that the first time I used it, it produced a burnt plastic smell, but when I used it the second time, this smell had gone. The packaging that the toaster comes in is very basic, which is what you expect when buying a smartprice product. The toaster itself is white with modern curved edges, which I quite like. The toaster is also easy to clean, if the outside attracts dirt, then you can just give it a quick wipe over with a wet cloth. I've been using my toaster for 4 months and there are hardly any crumbs that have collected in the bottom. To get rid of the crumbs on the inside of the toaster, simply unplug it, tip it upside down over the bin. This has always done the trick for me. Overall, this toaster has proved to be really good value for money, I didn't want a fancy toaster, I simply wanted a product that does what it says on the box, which this does. It even looks reasonably good so will slot into most kitchens well. Read the complete review |

Asda Smart Price Toaster
by Seven17 I was a little unsure about the quality of a toaster for this price and me being on a low budget, I had no choice but to opt in for this. Unfortunately the problems started the moment I unwrapped the packaging. The first thing you should know is, the picture on the front is very misleading, it clearly shows bread slots easily ... big enough for medium/thick slice farm house and in actual fact, I had to deliberately start buying thinner bread. The thick bread touched the sides of the grill on the inside of the toaster which caused problems getting it in without indenting the bread, and getting it out again, without scraping black stuff all over the toast. Then the next problem is the heater in this, which decides to cook toast however it feels on the day, not how you like it. So somedays id put it on for a minute and it would burn then the next day and it wouldn't cook through. Very frustrating. The final problem is the flimsy handle on the side of the toaster which has needed a very firm hand to push down and clip in place before now, and when it does clip in place, it still has a lot of play in the clip, where it jiggles around a bit. The only good thing I can say about this toaster is the price. You really do get what you pay for here, and whilst it was good money I don't really feel like it was a good buy. So by this I mean I would gladly spend an extra fiver and get a better one. Budget isn't always best. It's a poor quality toaster and if it does not work as a toaster because it won't cook toast properly then it's pointless. Not recommended I'm afraid. Read the complete review |

Asda White Toaster
by headsore Our Asda toaster is a bit of an odd shape I always said, from the first day we bought it, but my other half says she likes it as it is unusual. The model we have is in white but this particular one also comes in grey or silver. It is more tapered at the top and speads out like a skirt towards the bottom. Sorry, this is my best way of ... describing how it looks. It looks rather large and bulky but it does make great toast. We bought it about 18 months ago direct from Asda online and we paid £9.90 for the two slice version. There is a larger version (four slice) if you prefer but if you opt for this model it will cost you slightly more at £15. There are only three of us in our house and we don't eat that much bread so we opted for the smaller one. It has six heat settings, including defrost, which I personally find very useful as I often make toast with frozen bread. The slots are also nice and large and allow me to get in there real door stop sized slices of bread which I like to cut myself. The slices never get jammed like they can with some other toasters - this one's slots are perfect for either large or small slices of bread. The buttons are easy to use and the lever for pushing down the bread into the body of the toaster is easy to operate and slides without any real effort at all. As with most toasters, the only downside is keeping it clean and crumb free. The crumb tray is at the bottom of the toaster and is removable. However, it always seems to me that no matter if you think you have managed to remove every last crumb from the tray, another one will inevitably manage to escape. All in all this is a quality product from Asda which I am happy to recommend as it makes smashing toast and cheese toasties. Read the complete review |
