Sainsbury's 2 Slice Stainless Steel Toaster
by hopey123
I purchased this toaster from Sainsbury's at the same time I got the kettle which is also stainless steel like this 2 slice toaster. Back in 2009 I think it was priced round about the £10 mark. Having looked on line now they don't have this identical one but a similar one is priced at £14.97.
When I got this I felt a 2 slice ... toaster was fine with just one child in the house but now there are two of them sometimes wanting toast in the morning I wish I had a 4 slice toaster. I always feed the kids and partner before myself and often I end up with no time left to do mine or eating on the run.
This is a basic toaster and easy to use. Pop the bread into the slots and push the black lever down on the side to turn it on, making sure of course it is plugged in at the wall and on too. There is also a turn dial with numbers on so you can choose how burnt or not burnt you like your toast. I like mine just done so it looks like my tea does, pale, so I use number two on the dial whereas everyone has it on number four. I find that on larger slices of bread it doesn't fit down into the toaster right so I turn the pieces round half way though so it all gets toasted, the trouble is usually with large loaves like kingsmill or Walburtons.
There are two small round buttons with red light on the top of side of the toaster too, one is for defrosting bread but have never used that and the other is what I call the emergency pop up button. I'm sure others do this but it's a case of watched pot doesn't boil nor does watched bread toast, so I tend to press the button to see if it's nearly done even though it is on a setting and will pop up after the time on that setting is up. When the time is ready the toast pops up but not too far up and sometimes I don't notice it is done if I haven't heard it pop up.
On the same side as the buttons and lever at the bottom is a pull out thin stainless steel tray with a black plastic handle which fits into the black base of the toaster, this is the crumb catching tray. Easy to clean and replace back when clean and dry.
If you like to toast bagel, teacakes etc you can pop them over the top of the toaster as I find they don't always fit into the slots. For the price paid this toaster is fine and toasts well however I always think other peoples toast is nicer but that may be because someone else has made it lol.
My next toaster will be a bigger one purely for quickness but this toaster has lasted well and still cleans up well.
Having cleaned my toaster this morning I realized there are actually 3 little buttons and red lights so have no idea what the third is for.... Read the complete review |

Sainsbury's Basics 4 Slice Toaster

In all honesty, there isn't really too much to say about this. It's a toaster, and it's very cheap; there aren't many places you'll get a 4 slice toaster for under a tenner!
First of all, it's made from cheap plastic. This would be a problem if it was more expensive, but at this price point it's to be expected. Want a ... stainless steel one? You have to pay more.
It probably will break on you at some point; with mine, the handle wouldn't stay down, so you'd have to hold it there if you wanted it to toast the bread. However, Sainsbury's include a one year guarantee on it, so I went in and the very helpful staff replaced it for me on production of my receipt.
Now, what about the main function; toasting? Well, it is brilliant. In this respect, it doesn't matter if you spend £9 or £90 on a toaster, it'll do exactly the same job. You'll have to fiddle around with the dial to get the setting just right, but everyone likes their toast done slightly differently.
The wider slots are a massive bonus, it means you can stick thick sliced bread in there, or bagels. This is something that wasn't possible with the Asda, Morrisons or Tesco value-branded equivalents, which all retail for the same price.
In short then, this is the cheap toaster to go for. In fact, unless the cheap white shiny plastic look is just too unbearable, then I see no reason why you'd get something more expensive. And if it breaks on you, you can take it back and have it replaced within one year of purchase, if it breaks outside of that first year, come on, it's just a tenner. Read the complete review |

Sainsbury's Basics 4 Slice Toaster
by Jenkatclaire
Last year I bought this toaster thinking it would be great! At less than £10 this was a great deal, or at least it would have been aside from the problems. The toaster is of a fairly good quality, looking pretty generically white and plastic but serving its purpose. It comes with a crumb tray for cleaning and is not hot to the touch ... (unless you touch the inside of course). The toaster has different settings so that you can have it burned to a crisp, vaguely warmed bread, or anything in between, and it only takes a couple of minutes to toast fully. I found that the slots were not big enough for all slices of bread, so some flipping was involved, but this is the case on many toasters and most bread was able to be toasted fully without having to flip! The toaster will also fit smaller things like crumpets and pancakes but I had some difficulty removing them from it as they seemed to get wedged in it.
However, a short time after I bought this toaster I found that it had stopped working! I'm not entirely sure what happened, but I assume some of the wires had become disconnected, so that when I popped the toast down it did not stay down and hence the toaster wouldn't heat up! This was very annoying and so I would warn customers to keep their receipts as this is a fairly cheap toaster, so the chances of things breaking or going wrong are relatively high. However, having said that, I would not say that it was a bad toaster overall, as the cost of this evens out any problems if it breaks and it is a reasonable toaster nonetheless!
