Advantages: Good value, effective, added functions, it does the job.
Disadvantages: My toast doesn't fit completely into it, crumbs go everywhere.
As I am sure many of you will appreciate, when you move into a new house you have to buy new stuff, so your money has to stretch... When I moved in with my boyfriend earlier this year we made a conscious effort to get as much as we could for our money. A new toaster was definitely on the list, the old one had all but blown up and after the 4th fuse change I had virtually demanded a new one. So off we popped to Asda and in the home section we spotted this basic (and cheap) white toaster. At £5.99 it seemed like a real bargain, so how did it fare in practice?
When I took this toaster out of the box I noticed that it had a thin instruction booklet inside, I didn't bother reading this, because let's be honest, you just have to plug the things in.
There are 7 different heat setting on the toaster. I normally set it at three because I find that that when I toast my bread there is always a little piece sticking out of the top, so I have to turn it over and toast again (again I do this on level 3). This is a little annoying, but for £5.99 I'm not complaining.
The toaster itself is a bright white colour and I do find that it seems to attract dirt and general kitchen grease, but it's easy to clean so this isn't too much of a gripe. The only real issue I have is that rogue crumbs seem to get everywhere and I feel like I'm constantly cleaning them up off my worktop.
The toaster also has reheat and defrost buttons, which is unusual considering this product is so cheap. I've never actually used these functions and to be honest I don't think I ever would. But these functions are there if you want them!
You can only toast two pieces of bread at one time in this toaster, so I wouldn't recommend it to a family. However it suits us fine, we haven't had any problems with it and I think it's worth the price tag... four stars.
Summary: A decent budget buy.
