I recently purchased the Breville VTT115 for my flat, as a replacement for a very cheap and basic model we were already using. About a fortnight ago we decided it was time to upgrade to this better model, which cooks more evenly, and is able to fit larger items (such as crumpets, buns, etc.) inside.
We chose the Breville VTT115 on the basis of some its features (crumb tray, variable width slots) as well as the fact that it was part of a special offer at Argos, which allowed us to get a matching kettle (which we also needed) for half-price.
We've now used the toaster around a dozen times over the last 2 weeks, and found it to be far superior to our previous one. It's easy to toast thick or thin slices of bread, buns, crumpets and so on, and all are very evenly cooked. The simple heat settings mean toast is ready quickly, and I haven't managed to burn anything yet. There is also a slide-out tray on the rear of the unit that catches all excess crumbs and can be easily emptied, which reduces mess and gets rid of the familiar smell of burning crumbs after repeated uses! Another nifty feature is the 'reheat' button, which warms things quickly once they're toasted, without burning them to a crisp - a nice addition.
This is a very simple, but good quality toaster, which looks good and has some useful features. it's idea lfor a small home, but you obviously will need something bigger if you want to toast more than 2 things at a time.
