Advantages: Looks good for a few days and has cool displays
Disadvantages: Hopeless and toasting, too big, far too expensive, can burn your fingers and hard to keep clean
Like most expensive toasters about at the moment, this model looks great and all the descriptions sound great and the whole affair sounds marvelous, however this a long way off meeting those expectations.
The Breville VTT220 boasts super quick toasting times and the fact it can toast 4 pieces of bread at once. However if you want them to be properly toasted then it takes around about the same time as any other toaster, with the super speedy toast coming out practically untouched on one side and only slightly done on the other, definatley not how I want my toast.
Furthermore, although the exterier looks great and space age, it is very prone to grease marks and is therefore an absoloute pain to keep looking clean. Not only this but the metallic outer casing gets very hot during the toasting proccess and is therefore very easy to burn your fingers on, not a favourite feature of mine if im honest.
It is also a very large toaster and, no matter where I put it in the kitchen, it always stretched out half way across the work surface, I guess that's the price you pay for the futuristic feel! I had mine for around a month before I gave in and bought another one, a very simple two slot Kenwood model, which does my toast perfectly.
Although this toaster has a very nice, clever LED display on the front with a nice diagram showing how far through the toasting proccess your bread is, individual control buttons for each side of the toaster and nice little ejectable crumb trays at the bottom, a toaster will never be any good if it does not do it's main funstion, which is toast!!
This toaster can be purchased from Lavertons.co.uk for £69.99 but I would strongly advice you don't purchase it. It holds all bread shapes fine, and your crumpets will fit in nicely. But if I were you, I would find somewhere else to put your crumpets, unless you enjoy them half done or completley burnt that is.
Summary: Don't buy this toaster, it's pants
