About The Product
My Mother inlaw gave us this toaster and has given us exceptional value ever since. I could not fault this product at all. And now a few years have passed and we are still using it.
So lets get started release the clip in the middle using your thumb and forefinger for easy opening. There are 2 medium sized plates either side to put your sandwich on. Assuming that you have already made your filling. I find grated cheese and tuna quite a good spreadable.
By inserting the plug into the socket before hand then you can put your sandwich onto the toaster, about 2 minutes you can hear the sizzling a delicious noise of your sandwich cooking inside, with the irresistible smells. This procedure takes about 5 minutes. The green button will start to come on and by this time your sandwich has cooked to a nice golden brown finish.
When you open up the inside you will see the sandwich has been shaped and formed and sealed in the middle. Be careful though because now this is very hot inside you can leave open for about 30 seconds to 1 minute until cooled down. Then your sandwich is ready to eat. ENJOY.
A little tip to clean the toaster. Spray some white vinegar inside and outside using a kitchen tissue to clean off nicely this kills any germs off and the smell doesn't last long and cleaned within seconds no smugging brand new once again.
A very compact and easy to use little toaster. Ideal for those snacking times with soup. Also the price is very reasonable and so easy to clean.
As my continuing series of reviews on the Cookworks range of kitchen appliances I have been using, after being forced to buy the products as they were the only ones available when required quickly, my opinion of the brand the degree of enthusiasm with which I recommend them grows.
The CookWorks LW 082 Sandwich Toaster has become one of my used and favourite items, essential for any kitchen in my view. Nothing fills up a small gap like a toasted sandwich and this machine certainly knows how to make them!
This retails at under ten pounds usually so you must be aware upon making your decision that this a low budget machine and cannot be compared fairly to the high end toasted machine.
The one thing that does hit you is that this machine is a very very odd size. At first it seems too small for normal sized loaves and indeed it proves to be by some distance. However, it is also too large for the smaller loaves available which seems like a very strange decision to make it this size as if you use smaller bread it seems like a waste and by the time it shrinks you are left which a tiny sandwich. Whereas a bigger slice will have the curst sticking out the side and miss toasting some of the bread. Easiest thing really therefore is to slice the bread ¾ its size to get the perfect size sandwich.
The speed is about average for a toasting machine of this price and has a decent depth to it meaning you do not have to go sparingly on the filling!
There are a few issues with this toaster though one being that oddly it does not really shut properly leaving a gap between the base and lid. This means, and usually always means, that the filling seeps out onto the workbench making a messy kitchen. Also there are a number of holes in and around the machine where filling escapes to making it hard to keep clean.
Also the cord is under a metre long which means that there isn't much flexibility in where you can make the sarnies and I have had to rearrange my kitchen to accommodate.
All in all though for the price this is an excellent piece of kit which delivers good quality sandwiches quickly. For under a tenner you cant really complain.

If you're looking for a cheap, good quality sandwich toaster, then this is certainly an option to consider.
This toaster does its job quite well. It heats up in seconds (not quicker than expensive toasters, however), but there is little waiting time, certainly not long enough to slow down the sandwich making process. The toaster could be considered ever-so-slightly too small for regular sliced bread, but once the sandwich is toasting this doesn't become much of a problem. If anything, it seals it together better. The hot-plate is smooth which makes removing the sandwich particularly easy, and also easier to clean!
Sandwiches are cooked relatively fast in this toaster. I rarely have to wait more than a few minutes for the sandwich to be cooked, but it does often depend on how much you put in the sandwich. The toaster will allow you to make fairly full sandwiches, however if you go overboard on the fillings then it may cause difficulty in closing the lid.
I do have one main problem with this toaster though. The lid doesn't completely shut (there is space between the top and bottom) therefore any filling escaping from the sandwich will also escape from the machine- usually, right onto the worktop. This is a major nuisance when wanting to make a quick snack without having to worry about cleaning, because if anything it adds to the cleaning job. I regularly find myself put off making a toastie because of the leaking from the machine. Cheese often gets into the holes on the bottom and behind the machine, which makes it even harder to remove.
Overall though, you can't expect much better for the price. Useful for making quick toasties, but unfortunately the cleaning up after is a hassle!
This is overall a fine sandwich toaster with one exceptional flaw (I'll come to that in a minute).
The sandwich toaster cooks very well and very quickly - I don't think I've ever had to wait more than five minutes for my sandwich to be cooked, which is good if you want a quick sandwich on the go. The machine is well-designed, too, which I like to think is a bonus (no-one likes ugly machinery in their kitchen). The amount of time that the sandwich toaster takes to heat up is minimal, probably around two minutes, which is really good, again especially if you want a quick bite to eat.
The machine isn't too hard to clean, though crumbs do collect at a crevasse in the back of it where the sandwich maker closes. This area is quite hard to get to so you may have to be careful when making toasties that you don't get any dirt down there. If you do, you might never be able to get that part of the sandwich toaster clean. What's more, though the machine is nicely designed, the front clip that holds the sandwich compressors down comes away from the device quite easily. Practically every time I use the machine I have to re-attach the clip because it's fallen off when I try and close the sandwich toaster compressors together.
These aren't even the biggest problems, though - I found from the very beginning with this sandwich toaster that any overspill from cooking sandwiches, say cheese toasties, for example, will not collect in the middle of the toasting tray but will simply pour out the back of the machine instead, onto your kitchen top. This is the machine's major downfall - it's got to the point where I can't leave this sandwich toaster unattended while it cooks unless I'm willing to clean up a potentially ugly mess when it's done. No-one should have to tilt their sandwich toaster while it cooks so it doesn't spill any excess contents out the back, which is why I've deducted a couple of stars from the rating.
