      Thanks for Reading :)

I have gone through many toasters over the years, some managed to last a long while, while others not so long. The DeLonghi CTO4003 Toaster however is one of the best toasters I have come to use. This was actually given to me as a Christmas present! I know it might seem like an odd Christmas present, but we were in need of a new one and a family member was kind enough to get us one.

      THE PRICE
      = = = = = = =

After searching the internet I must say I am pretty surprised at how much it costs. Amazon for example are selling this toaster for £83.49! Which in my opinion is way overpriced for a 4 slice toaster. Curry's are selling it at a more reasonable price of £59.99, as are play.com and sellers on eBay (£61). I just saw one for sale on Tesco for £93.97! So I think this illustrates that it is a good idea to shop around as I am pretty sure you can get one cheaper. I think the consensus is that £60 is the more reasonable price for this toaster.

      MY EXPERIENCE
      = = = = = = = =

This Delonghi toaster is very attractive to look at, it has a nice modern design that sets it apart from other boring looking toasters. It looks sophisticated and high tech thanks to its trendy looking stick levers and black stand out buttons. It definitely looks like a designer toaster, and in my opinion a very attractive one too. I have a black coloured version, but it comes in a series of colours including silver, red, purple, and white. The black glossy finish goes nicely with my black and silver work tops and makes my kitchen look more modern. It has shiny stainless steel slots, lever background plates, and near the bottom.

It is a good sized toaster and has a height of 21 cm, Width 31 cm, and depth 31 cm. It weighs 2.9 kg. It has 4 slots meaning it can make 4 toasts at the same time, which makes morning breakfast that much more quicker as there will be no long queues waiting for the toaster to be free.

The toaster has two leaver sticks that pull the bread down and also pushes the toast higher than normal toasters. This is due to its high lift facility function that basically makes the toasts pop up higher and therefore makes it easier to take out, which is great as I find it annoying when toasts seem to jump back into the toaster and get stuck.

Each stick controls a specific section of the toaster, the left controls the left side slots and the right controls the right slots. The levers have a black plastic finish and are located near the centre of the double toast slots. The high lift facility is an excellent little feature that makes it so much easier to grab hold of your toast when its done without having to dig your fingers in and touch the hot metal plates. This also makes it ideal for heating up small crumpets, croissants, hot cross buns, scones etc as you don't have to worry about it getting stuck.

The slot sizes have a good width, meaning its perfect for toast and thicker bread sizes or hot cross buns. I have heated thick slices or bread a number of times without it ever getting stuck, it manages to produce excellent golden toast no matter the size. Same results for crumpets, croissants, and hot cross buns; they are all easy to pull out and fit into the slots and are all heated to perfection.

There are two circular temperature controls designed to control how well you want your toast done. The temperature options range from 1 to 5, i usually put it on 3 as it makes nice golden brown toasts with that setting. I think my partner tried number 5 one day and it produced near black coloured toast so unless you like burnt toast I think 3 is the best setting. I like that it does have different temperature settings and that is quite accurate as well, my sister loves her toast very lightly toasted and therefore always sets it on number 1, while my mum like its on number 2 for light but near golden toast; so it really does cater for the whole family.

The toaster has a removable tray located at the bottom, which means when crumbs and bits of food start falling off it gathers nicely into the tray. It is easy to remove and hence easy to empty and pop back in. This is something I love about this toaster, as with my older one I had to tip it over to get all the crumbs out which was such a pain to do, this one however makes like that much simpler!

The toaster has 4 buttons on the left and 4 on the right, which again control the specific section of the toaster. The buttons include a defrost feature that defrosts frozen bread or rolls easily, there is a reheat button that reheats items if for example you left it in the toaster and had to quickly take the trash out then you can simple reheat it. The bagel button is designed specifically for heating up bagels, and the cancel button is pretty much self explanatory.

      CONCLUSION
      = = = = = = =

Overall this toaster takes toaster to a whole another level, it lives up to its price tag and really performs as well as it looks. It makes great golden brown toasts, bagels etc without getting stuck, and has many features to make toasting and heating up your breakfast that much easier and quicker. I would therefore highly recommend this 4 slot toaster and hence give it a full 5/5 rating.

A great buy. This toaster is good-looking and well-made, doing its job very well.

I bought this toaster to replace a much-loved Dualit toaster. The first thing that made me fall in love with this toaster is it's beautiful looks and ability to perk up your kitchen. The red colour is really stunning and you can also get a kettle in the same colour. The toaster has four extra wide toasting slots with an extra lift position which helps when you need to get those tricky pieces of toast out. You can choose to use only two slots and each set of two set of two slots is controlled by different browning buttons and dials making it possible for your family to be ultra fussy and order their toast done exactly as they like it. Or to choose to have a bagel and get the toasting just so rather than burning it.The browning controls are great; there are bagel, defrost, reheat, cancel buttons and a dial with which you set the browning. There are also two crumb trays which are easy to slide out for emptying. The toaster has a large footprint which may not suit those with a smaller kitchen.

        Key Features:
        Four toasting slots
        Extra lift position
        Crumb tray
        Electronic browning controls
Buttons for bagels, defrosting and reheating

It's a toaster of beauty. Face it. You want a pretty toaster.

House shares. It's a balancing act every day to ensure that everyone is happy, no one feels left out and everyone has their turn in the shower before breakfast. We manage this pretty well in our gaff. There are 4 of us and two are in a couple. We chat about things and come to common agreements. Such as deciding that we needed a new toaster.

So. Off into the wild of the Arndale centre heads toast-loving housemate one. We did point out to him later that he could have picked up the same toaster for a fraction of the price online but he'd been sucked into a shopping frenzy of toaster lust. I'm not going to lie - there was a fight. Not an actual fist-fight, you understand. The air was chilly. We are an eco friendly bunch. We scrimp and save. And yet now we own a toaster that costs about a fifth of what we each pay a month in rent. He should take it back. There was no doubt about it. Then we opned the box.

Well. It's quite an attractive number as toasters go. Ours is a creamy colour but you can choose from a range of options to suit your kitchen styling needs. It looks a bit like a retro radio (in fact - they should make one that plays tunes. I'd buy that). In fact, it looks a bit like the control panel for some kind of classic car. Or maybe even a vintage plane. We could see how he'd been lured in. Also, it came with little metal toasting trays to make toasted sandwiches. It has variable browning. And you can make toast for two people at once WITH DIFFERENT LEVELS OF BROWNING!

It found a place in the kitchen and set about its task of warming our bread and our hearts. The bagel setting works on bagels, tea cakes and crumpets. There is a snazzy cancel button so you can eject your toast at the touch of a button if it gets into browning distress. The different sides can be started at different times - as one person pops into the shower the other can jump out and have their toast ready to go.

The sandwich toasting option was a bit of a pain in honesty as what is a toasted sandwich without cheese? Worthless, that's what and the cheese clogs up the crumb tray. Also, non slip feet are probably a good thing (this toaster weighs a lot - you wouldn't want it falling from the counter on to your slippered feet of a morning) but they make it tricky to slide the toaster aside to clean beneath it. If cleaning beneath things is of importance to you.

We didn't take it back. We love it now. I think we might end up buying the matching kettle.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Ok but not worth the money

I purchased this toaster purely on looks alone. I always believe the saying you get what you pay for but that isnt the case here! it does look fab in the kitchen but I wouldn't recommend for a small kitchen as it does take up a lot of work top space. Like another review I have to agree that settings above 2 are pointless unless you like your toast cremated! (I find between 1 and 2 gives me perfect toast) Don't see the point in defrost button either as it doesn't seem to make a difference either way. Another annoying thing is that the crumbs seem to get stuck around the rim at the top and are a nightmare to clean out without tipping the whole thing upside down and ending up with crumbs everywhere! I was going to buy the kettle to match but I'm having second thoughts now :-/

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            Not worth the price tag

When me and My husband got married, we didn't yet have a home together. So we decided to have a traditional gift list so that we could start building up items for our new home together.
As well as generously being gifted with items from our gift list, some guests gave us vouchers to spend in some of the bigger department stores, so after we got settled into our new home, we set out to buy some more gadgets for our home.
I am someone who enjoys luxury items, especially for the home, and my husband often has to bring me back to reality when it comes to purchasing what should be 'basic' items for the home.
Needless to say, when I started looking at DeLonghi products for the kitchen, My husband though I had lost the plot, seeing the price tags that these products held!
But I had desperately lusted over the DeLonghi Icona toaster and kettle for so long. I thought it them the ultimate luxury items in kitchen ware, they just have such a sleek, classic look to them!
My husband is very practical, and to him, it didn't matter how the DeLonghi Icona looked in the kitchen, it was merely a toaster, and a basic white one from the supermarket would have done him!

I never ended up getting the co-ordinating kettle, but I seriously dug my heels in with reagards to the toaster. I didn't want a basic white toaster...I wanted this beautiful creation, in stylish black. And I have to say, I was not disappointed with its appearance when it arrived at our home, it really did look the part in our new kitchen. Chic and Italian!
The Toaster comes with four little buttons on one side, the purposes of which are 'Bagel' 'Reheat' 'Defrost' and 'cancel'. So to be fair they are very basic settings which even your cheapest of toasters come with. I thought the Bagel setting sounded different, but I have toasted bagels both on this setting and without, and I found it toasted the same both ways, so I don't really understand the point of this button.
The toaster also come with a dial on the other side which says 'toast colour' and allows you to opt from 1 to 6, depending how well done you like your toast. So basically, it is a glorified timer, which does make a difference to how your toast comes out, I like mine golden brown and turning the dial to just over 3 usually does it to my preference. However, if you are putting more toast in straight after your first few slices, you have to make sure you re-fiddle with the dial, otherwise you end up with over done toast. So again, it is really only as good as it's cheaper competition.
The most frustrating thing I have found with this product is that once you have done your first few slices of toast, and try to put in more straight after, the catch won't stay down and stick, so you end up having to keep pushing it down very firmly, until you get it to hold...which can take a while sometimes and get you rather angry!!

The toaster does come with a tray that slides out from the back with ease, which catches any crumbs, so you can easily dispose of the bulk of the mess. And with a little wipe over , the toaster, always comes up lovely and clean, so cleaning in general is very easy with this product.
So, overall, even though it is a quick toaster, and I do get lovely golden brown toast, most of the time, I do think it is extremely over priced for all its little faults and the fact it really doesn't perform any better than the basic options out there. If anything, it probably under performs, in comparison to some other makes.
My husband would no doubt say, 'I told you so!'
And yes it does look the part in my kitchen, but going back, I certainly wouldn't make the same decision again. I think I was expecting a total miracle of a toaster fro the price I paid, as so was left a little disappointed!

            This product retails from :
£49.99 on Amazon depending on the colour, with free delivery for a 2 slice toaster
If you prefer a four slice toaster you are can currently get this model in four slice for
£53.14 down from £74.99 on Amazon with free delivery!
So if you think its worth it, I would grab one now, while you can at least call it more of a bargain.

              fantastic toaster

Some people might say a toaster is just a toaster, but they would be wrong. This is the most trendiest toaster around and has some great features and looks fantastic. Unlike most conventional toasters, this one can toast four slices of bread at the same time. This is extremely handy if you have a family or want to toast more than 2 slices a time.

It looks great in the kitchen and comes in a vairety of colours. It does take up quite a bit of room which might not be practical if you have a small kitchen. It is easy to clean and doesn't show finger prints. I bought this toaster from argos for and you can buy a matching kettle to go with it which also looks very trendy and retro. It was about £60 which may seem a bit steep but it well worth it and it has never caused me any problems.

The toaster has a variety of controls for browning your toast. Although I haven't found these very useful, they are a great idea especially if you're fussy with how you like your toast. This toaster is also great for toasting bagels and you can defrost bread with it too.

The removable crumb trays are fantastic and it makes it very easy to empty unlike lots of conventional toasters. This limits the amount of mess and is another reason why this toaster is great.

I would definitely recommend this toaster as it is unique, has some great features and looks fantastic.

Great looking toaster that works really well but you do have to pay for it.

Some say there's nothing quite like the love between a man and his dog. I say there's nothing quite like the love between a man and his toaster.

Toast is generally considered a good thing, I don't think many people will argue that. It works as a breakfast, a snack, it's highly portable, it makes a good bed for beans or cheese, or my personal favorite cheese melted over beans. You know, I love bread of all sorts, but with some breads you don't see them maximizing their full taste potential until they are toasted; step forward bagels, soda bread and veda. So I stand here before you as a fully signed up member of the toast appreciation society, so it goes without saying I'm gonna want to have me a bitchin' toaster......

I'm not going to lie to you, it was love at first sight for me with this little minx of a toaster. She's (I've only just this second genderized the toaster) one sexy toaster, what with her shiny chrome areas and her cracking browning knobs (the hours I've invested tweaking her browning knobs - to get the correct browning level you understand, it's nothing sexual, honest). However, I wasn't looking for love, I'm a very practical person, I just wanted a toaster that could hold 4 slices of bread at a time, toast them, pop them out and then we'd both go about our business. I didn't want to spend money on toaster that looked nice or went with the kitchen tiles (I'm an ignorant man who needs his wife to tell him what goes with what) I just wanted an uncomplicated relationship with my toaster. Good old fashioned no strings attached toasting fun. But sometimes the universe has other plans for you.

I think I've said enough about the aesthetics of this toaster, it looks great, but I don't just want a 'trophy toaster'. You need more that physical attraction for a relationship to work. You need fully functioning browning controls, a defrost setting, a bagel setting (it toasts the cut flat side and just warms the round side), a cancel button that works without having to press it at just the right angle 50 times and a decent sized crumb tray. The Icona toaster naturally has all these features.

I don't think for one second that any of the features on this toaster are unique, but I do find the toaster has very good build quality and operates to an excellent standard. To minimize energy waste you operate 2 slices separately. This is also good if you are making toast for two people who have different browning preferences. The level of browning is set using the browning knobs and dial (I seem to be typing the word 'browning' a lot - I'm not sure I'm comfortable with this) which gives the toaster a sort of retro stylish look.

It probably costs a little more than some people would be willing to pay for a toaster (myself included I nicked one off a truck at the rear entrance to Currys - that was a joke, it was at the back of Dixons - again a joke) at around £45 - £60 depending on colour. They are widely available in most toaster selling shops, both online and in real life.

If you are someone who likes all their kitchen appliances to match, you could invest in the coffee maker and kettle in the Icona range. All the items come in a variety of colours including pearl white, red, black, silver and blue.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

                Don't waste your money

OFFICIAL PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: 'The retro-styled Icona CTO4003.R is a four-slice toaster with 1.8 kW of power for rapid toasting. Designed to toast four slices, this toaster can also operate two slots independently, allowing you to make two slices of toast without wasting energy. It has a stylish Scarlet Red finish that has been designed not to show fingerprints, as well as neon indicator function lights and electronic controls for its reheat, defrost, bagel and cancel functions.

The variable browning control features six levels of browning to help you achieve your perfect toast colour, while the variable width slots increase your choice of bread shapes and sizes and the extra-lift facility makes it easy to remove even the smallest items and slices. The De'Longhi Icona has an extra-deep crumb tray to keep your workspace tidy and non-slip feet for safety, all of which means your toaster will be as easy to use as it is attractive in your kitchen'.

                PRICE: £74.99

MY PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: This toaster reminds me of a man I once dated - good looking but essentially useless. Also, the knob is very fiddly and doesn't achieve the desired results. The official line (above) boasts six levels of browning to 'help you achieve your perfect toast' - well, unless your dream slice is charred, burnt, very burnt or reduced to ashes, then you're not going to find your ideal slice out of this machine. Anything above level 2 is heading towards that 'um, could this be carcinogenic?' feeling. I've never actually tried it on level 3 for fear of burning down the house. Why oh why would a manufacturer produce a product with about 4 redundant settings (and then have the audacity to claim there are an array of levels at your disposal)?

Furthermore, the 'by hand' lever means you need to fiddle with it to get it in the right spot - and you hardly ever do; meaning your toast is either more on the bread side than you'd like it to be or slightly over-cooked.

Worse still, this over-priced offering doesn't even have a lever that you can pull up to check on the toast midway through - so you can't even make sure it's not about to burn. I've had cheap-as-chips toasters that allow you to do this and, to my mind, this is an annoying omission.

So what else does the toaster do? Well it re-heats (just in case it hasn't already burnt the toast enough); has a defrost function (er, isn't that just heating the toast for a little longer?) and has the capacity to burn bagels as well.

I honestly can't stand this toaster - it takes up a huge amount of room and annoys you with its smug good looks when you know full well it's essentially incompetent. It's the equivalent of a good looking waiter who consistently gets your order wrong. After all, what do you really require of a toaster, other than to transform bread into toast? And when it can't even do that properly, it's hardly worth having.

Incidentally, The Gadget Show did a road test of toasters a while back and, if memory serves me correctly, it was the cheapest toaster (a Breveille) which got the highest marks.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

                It's alright.

We bought this toaster in black, with the matching kettle, as we had a new kitchen. They certainly looked the business on the floor of Comet.

But positioning it on the worktop it just looks so big. It is a dominating piece of equipment, but it's only a toaster.

Yes there are the useful functions that many toasters do not have - including "defrost", "bagel" and "re-heat", which all work excellently. But whilst there are also two knobs for adjusting cooking times, and a cancel button in case anything starts to burn, it is the knobs that have to always be set about at number 1 or everything burns. Why have in excess of 5, what would you possibly cook, as it won't be toast?

In addition, there is a valley where - in the picture above - the red hits the chrome, and guess what, crumbs gather. How can you clean them out...by tipping it up each and every time. Of course you won't do that, so a massive design flaw, and ours always has crumbs in it. You need some sort of brush I guess to sweep through it etc.

A useful function is that the levers for the toast also lift up a little, making it suitable for heating pre-cooked pancakes, waffles and hot-crossed buns. And the bagel setting only toasts the inside.

But again, the two removeable crumb trays are at the back which means you have to twist the toaster and make more movements spilling crumbs than if they were at the front.

We must have had ours 16 months now, and I confess they do retain their shine and good looks - save for the above.

Would I recommend it, no, sorry. Yes it has durability and style, but design is annoying as is the size.

Most of my favourite snacks involve toasted bread in some form, whether it is cheese on toast, beans on toast, a toasted sandwich or simply toast with butter and jam on top. (Now I've made myself hungry!) I find the aroma addictive and if I smell someone cooking toast, I have to have some myself too.

Because I love toast so much, I wanted to splash out on a fancy toaster. In the past I have bought a few toasters created by Morphy Richards and no matter what size or thickness the bread is that I have bought it, it never seemed to properly fit in the machine. So this time I decided to get a special one.

The De'Longhi Icona CT0443 in Scarlet Red instantly caught my eye. I knew it would match the black and red décor of my kitchen. I liked this particular toaster because of its retro style which has been inspired by the 1950's Italian glamour.

When I saw that the appliance was able to toast four slices of bread at the same time, I knew it would mean no more arguments in the morning about who was the latest and who needed to make their toast first. So I bought it.

                  What does it look like?
The appliance really is an eye catching piece of equipment with gorgeous chrome detailing. The toaster is coated with three layers of Scarlet Red high gloss paint and then covered with a matt finish that claims to be fingerprint resistant. The toaster is silver on top and the four slices of toast are inserted vertically so that they all stand side by side in the machine.

At the front are two black push down levers which control the two pairs of toast so that it functions as two separate machines joined together. In between the two levers are eight black round buttons and on the two outer edges, there are two dials and two knobs to control the machine.

The toaster stands on non slip feet which makes it that much safer to use. As well as Scarlet Red, you can also buy the toaster in Onyx Black, Satin Silver, Azure Blue and also in white, green and aubergine.

                  How does it work?
This toaster is great for families who rush around with schedules that don't quite match. Not only does this toaster allows you to toast four pieces of bread simultaneously by each pair of grills work independently to the other so you can remove your toast without disturbing the other pair.

This is also fantastic for people who like their toast cooked to different levels and crunchiness. And this function is beneficial if it is just you alone making toast as you can just use half the toaster, instead of wasting the energy of using all four which means lower electricity bills and its better for the environment.

Despite the toaster not being overly complicated, it does still come with an instruction manual that explains all the buttons and tells you how you can use the machine in the most efficient way. The toaster works on 1.8 KW of power so it toasts the bread quickly which means you can get out of the front door quicker in the mornings.

This toaster really is perfect for the massive toast fans like me who are particular about how it's made, even to the extent that you can choose how brown you like your toast with six different levels to choose from. You can also adjust the width of the slots if you prefer thickly sliced bread which is fantastic as chunky bread refused to fit into some of the other toasters that I've owned.

The toaster evens adjusted to be wide enough to fit in the Marks & Spensers crumpets which have got jammed in every other appliance I've owned. The lever which you push down to start the appliance toasting also moves up in order to lift some of the smaller items higher up in order to remove them. This lever gets the crumpets out effortlessly and stops me from adopting some of the more stupid methods I've used in the past to get them out.

Another great feature that is has is a reheat button. Sometimes when I'm making toast, the phone will ring or I'll need to answer the door and when I come back the toast is cold. By simply pressing the reheat button, it gets the temperature back to a yummy level without having to throw out the toast and start again which saves both on food and electricity.

There are also controls to defrost bread that you may have been keeping in the freezer and cancel buttons for when you've accidently put something in there for too long. And finally there is a button that you can use if you are toasting bagels and you only want to toast the one side of the product. This really is like a magical toasting machine. The machine is easy to clean and it has two separate deep crumb trays which catch all the mess and allows it to be easily dispensed of.

                  Final thoughts
This toaster is perfect in my eyes. It is sturdy and solid and I can see myself owning it for a very long time before anything goes wrong. It looks completely gorgeous and most people who come to my house will make a comment about it.

I think the claim that it remains fingerprint free is only true when your hands are not buttery. If I simply move the machine to clean it, then my finger prints disappear but if you are making toast, sometimes it needs to be wiped down afterwards but this doesn't take long. The crumb tray works perfectly and no crumbs manage to escape underneath the machine.

It is a time saver for me in the mornings and I love the way that it functions as two different toasters. It cuts down on arguments in the morning as we can both have our toast when we want it and how we want it makes the morning rush a little more harmonious. I also love the way that if I'm alone, I can just use one side on the toaster.

The machine works quickly and gives perfect results each time. The reheat button is very helpful and has cut down on wastage for me. After an initial mess around with the buttons, you'll see how straightforward they are to use and even my technophobe mother can use it without a problem whenever she comes to visit. I love how the thickness can of the slot be adjusted so I toast all my favourite types of bread.

I bought my toaster from Amazon for about £60 which was cheap for this product. It is also available from many electrical stores such as Currys and Dixons but the price from there is closer to £75. The toaster can also be bought from a variety of online websites so it is definitely worth shopping around to ensure that you are getting the best possible deal.

All in all, you can't really ask for more than what this toaster does. It looks gorgeous, doesn't make a mess and it allows you to cook your toast in the exact way that you like it. It cuts down on petty arguments and many of its features are environmentally friendly and it cut down on electricity bills too.

The only thing that could improve this toaster is if it made me a cup of tea in the mornings too. I think this toaster is worth every penny that I paid for it.

                    Disadvantages

                    very good toaster

We bought this toaster and a matching kettle around 18 months ago, and it's still in great condition despite daily use. We bought both items in red, and the design and style are always a talking point when people see them for the first time. This is a "cool" toaster if you can ever call one that!

The features available, including "defrost", "bagel" and "re-heat", all work excellently, with two knobs for adjusting cooking times, and a cancel button in case anything starts to burn. The levers for the toast also lift up a little, making it suitable for heating pre-cooked pancakes, waffles and hot-crossed buns. The bagel setting toast only the inside.

The two removeable crumb trays at the back make this easy to clean and maintain, and on the visible parts there is no indication that the chrome will flake or rust.

I would highly recommend this toaster, for quality, durability and style.

                    Disadvantages

                    great style, average toast

This toaster comes in a wide range of colours which look really good on your work top. you can get kettles, coffee machines and a range of other kitchen appliances to match, which really does create an eye-catching look.

It's easy to keep this toaster looking great. It's tough and hasn't scratched, despite the huge amount of use. Although the chrome shows up sticky fingers really easy, it's wiped down easily and comes up shiny. Again, no scratches.

I really like how you can toast 4 slices of bread at the same time. Each of the pairs of grills can be controlled independently of each other, so it really is like having two toasters. There's loads of different settings like bagel and defrost as well as cancel button, all easily accessed on the front of the toaster.

At nearly £60 it's certainly style rather than function that you're paying for. This toaster is quite slow and sometimes toasts bread a little bit unevenly. I find I have to put my toast in again upside down to make sure all of the bread has been toasted.

There are almost certainly better functioning toasters on the market, but nothing can compare to this for style. The design is really clever. Contemporary but it also has retro elements, and the wide range of the bold colour scheme means it could fit into any kitchen and look great.

                    De'Longhi Icona CTO4003

                    ** De'Longhi Icona CTO4003 **

My beautiful red toaster. I love the colour red and many things in my kitchen are red as I think it looks so pretty on the black worktop. I think a toaster is really a need in the kitchen and I can't imagine not having toast for breakfast anymore. I find plain bread just so boring. With my little family a toaster with 2 slots is just not enough so we have the De'Longhi Icona CTO4003.

                    **************************************************

What I love about this toaster is that it's so beautifully stylish. It has this beautiful colour red combined with this silver colour and then black on the bottom. It looks very retro what I love. The toaster comes for about 60 pounds. 60 isn't really cheap but always not very expensive and think it's worth it.

                    **************************************************

The toaster has several controls to make sure you get the bread just the way you like it. I don't like my bread that well done, I like it light brown but my husband likes it dark brown. The toaster makes the bread the way I like it and doesn't over burn the bread. That's not always the cause with other toasters. You have some other functions that include defrosting, reheating, bagel and even one side toasting! You can also cancel the toasting and also control the width to make the slot a little bit bigger. Handy if the bread is a little bit thicker than normal. You can also operate each slide independently.

                    **************************************************

It's really a great toaster that looks so stylish. It's fingerprint free and that's a big plus. My last toaster wasn't fingerprint free and you could really see the fingerprints on the outside. I just don't think it's pretty. The toaster really eels high end and I think 60 pounds isn't really a lot of money for a good toaster. The most important is of course how it prepares the bread and he does that perfectly. My bread gets a little bit light brown while the bread of my husband is dark brown. It just saves times in the morning this 4 slots toaster and it's no hassle to operate. Stylish and good!

                      Disadvantages

When it worked i had lovely toast for breakfast, when it didn't i had bread

I'm one of those people who have to have appliances that match the colour scheme of the house or in this case kitchen. I was so pleased when i found this toaster that on my way home i bought crumpets so i could try it out.

For about 3weeks it was brilliant, until in the whirlwind that is our morning routine i rushed to get my toast and dash for the train when i realised my toast was just bread. I came home and checked it out when realised the extra lift/spring wasn't working. I took it back and had it fixed but within a few days the problem occurred again. I called the service helpline and an abrupt agent told me i must have been using the toaster incorrectly and they would need to fix the product again. So the toaster went back for a second time and was fixed. (the other appliances in my kitchen must have felt rather jealous)

Since the toaster has come back the power doesn't seem to last to actually make toast and only one side is working so i don't use it anymore. After reading many wonderful reviews about this toaster i was gutted for mine not to work but when it did it was wonderful especially the defrost option.

On a light note the matching Kettle is superb :)

                      Disadvantages

Not just a pretty face - this is a well-built, well thought-out toaster!

OK, it's going to be difficult to write a review on a toaster - especially one that cost me about £70 - without sounding a tad materialistic. And maybe a bit sad. But let's face it - you're looking at this toaster because it's red, and you want it to go with your red kitchen appliances! So you've already established you like how it looks - the classy glossy-red finish, the retro styling, mmm... - but can you really justify spending the price, especially when the supermarkets are knocking out 4-slice toasters for a fraction of the price.

Well, I'm here to tell you that, aside from the aesthetics, it actually is a very good toaster...

Firstly, it has good-sized slots. Not just height (nothing worse than bread poking out the top, requiring a mid-point turnaround), but also width. If you like your chunky doorstep toast, it's not a problem here.

Secondly - it's energy efficient! Kind of. I don't know about watt usage or anything, but the very fact that each half has its own controls means you don't have to waste energy heating the elements of all four slots when you only want two slices. This is often the case with other 4-slicers.

Thirdly - personal browing! By that, I mean each half has its own controls, so you and yours can leave them set to your preferred brownage levels.

Finally - no crumbs! there are no holes in the bottom for crumbs to fall out, keeping your worktop clean. This was a real bugbear for me with previous toasters, so this alone would have sold it for me.

OK, there's no getting around the fact that you're paying through the nose for something because of how it looks. But at least now you can kind of justify it to yourself. Happy toasting!
