I love my Delonghi Icona four slice toaster and it has pride of place on my kitchen work surface. It’s an Italian design and really caught my eye when I went looking for a new toaster. I didn’t anticipate spending almost £50 ona toaster but as soon as I saw this model I just knew I had to have it. I ordered it online and it was delivered within 48 hours.
I was originally attracted by the red one but finally settled for the aubergine / plum colour as I thought the colours suited the colour scheme in my kitchen better and was slightly more muted. The toaster itself is large enough, but I thought the bright red colour might make it stand out just a little too much.
It looks more complicated to use than it actually is and once you get the hang of the controls it’s really very simple to use and I didn’t realise how useful and versatile this toaster really is. It’s fantastic for toasting anything from thick to thin slices of bread, to bagels, crumpets, teacake and even thick bread buns.
The toasting slots are extra wide and this prevents the bread from sticking inside when the toast is ready and it’s popped. I love the fact that I can manually adjust the sizes of the slots to fit the size of the breads I’m toasting and there are two handles on bother sides of the toaster itself so I can easily raise or lower the bread in the slots.
The settings are defrost, bagel, reheat and cancel and when one of them is in use, there is a little indicator light which comes on so I can see at a glance which one is switched on. I also love the fact that I can toast my bread as lightly or as darkly as I want by using the little 0-5 indicator lights. Number five makes darker toast and obviously no 0 makes the lightest toast possible.
I love that it’s got a really effective defrost function so now I don’t have to wait for my bread to defrost when I’m trying to make toast straight from the freezer. The crumb tray is nice and large and really simple and easy to remove to get rid of the crumbs and then it just slides back in again easily.
The design is modern and yet traditional all at once and I’d imagine it would suit many styles of kitchen. It’s a good looking as well as brilliant toaster and I love it.
