An appliance you'll have forever and will become part of the family

I hate to go against the grain (excuse the pun) but there are a couple of things about this toaster that I wanted to point out. We got our toaster about 10 years ago and mechanically I can't fault it. It toasts breads perfectly well so long as you remember to set it to the right slice setting. For example if you want to do 4 slices of bread and you still have your toaster set for 1 slice then you get only 1 slice and 3 half done slices of toast. Bit annoying! One of the elements has gone on ours but I believe you can get this fixed easily but we haven't bothered as I believe it can cost between £25 and £30 if you send it to Dualit. The other thing I thought I'd mention is the fact that I find it very hard to get my toaster very shiny like the Dualits you see it the glossy homestyle mags. It just stays a stubborn dull dirty silver. Also cooked on bits do stick on the top. Just give it a quick scrub and all will be fine.

Iconic design - Worth Every Penny

Only a madman would spend over £100 on a toaster. Not my words, but those of my mother who, despite using a toaster each morning for breakfast, would rather cut off her arms rather than spend over £10 on such a simple applicance. In spite of this - or perhaps because of it - my father raided the coffers and presented me with my Dualit three years ago. And it's still going strong, having managed the workload of four teenage toast-loving boys in the house.

The iconic style cannot be faulted and there is just something so very 'solid' about the design and the gently ticking timer that lets you know that breakfast is on the way. My personal favourite function is the fact that the toast does not pop up automatically and instead rises manually with the press of a lever; not only does this mean that there is far less to go wrong mechanically, but it also makes breakfast a calmer affair - no longer are you hit with flying toast while you are waking up over 'the first cup of caffeine' of the day, nor resorting to unhooking bits of bread from the element whilst still half asleep.

For those 'energy-savers' amongst us, there is also is extra bonus: the ability to turn off two of the elements should only two slices be needed in the mornings. Worth every penny. Despite what mum says.

          Great toaster for life!!

We saved for a long time to purchase this toaster! We have always bought fairly cheap toasters, 'oh its only for toast, doesnt need to be fancy', however as we have discovered now we have the Dualit 40344, its wise to spend the extra and invest in a toaster that wont break after a month, will toast evenly, will toast 4 slices at once, however it does have the option of just using two of the four slots if you do only want two slices toasted saving wasting unused slots! It has a removable crumb tray, which is always good to keep it clean. It is sleek, looks great in the kitchen, in fact its quite a wow factor(yes we are quite sad?!!) Its easy to wipe down, has an easy to use pop up handle and do you know what it hasnt let us down once, it always produces perfect toast!

          The best of the best

A friend of mine raved on about Dualit toasters and I ignored him as I thought they were too pricey! I got this as a gift 2 years ago and I absolutely love it. It looks beautiful! The finish is gorgeous - it fits well amongst any chrome/stainless steel fittings you might have or stands out amongst the boring white appliances.

It is expensive but most definitely worth it. The pop up handle means you'll never burn your fingers trying to grab hold of small pieces of toast and if you push it just right you can get the toast to pop right out onto your plate without touching it! You can time how long it toasts for, rather than like on the cheaper toaster options where you have light, medium and burnt! And it makes a pleasing ticking noise whilst it toasts so you don't forget that it's on. You can adjust it so that it toasts two pieces of bread or 4, saving electricity.

This is an essential addition to any stylish kitchen; highly recommended

            A modern day icon!

Now we're talking! After years of putting up with replacing my toaster with yet another cheapo special offer one only to have it blow up on me in no time flat I decided that in the case of toasters cheap is a false economy.

I really can't sing the praises of Dualit toasters enough. It's an iconic piece of kitchenware that looks great on any counter top. Chunky, toasts bread quickly, never, ever, breaks down - the thing's practically indestructible, I'm sure of it! My mornings wouldn't be the same without the ticking of the analogue rotary timer dial ticking down. The chunky rubber feet ensure it stays put, and the big crumb tray does the job just fine. OK, it's a lot bigger than cheapo toasters so takes up more counter space, but that's a small price to pay indeed for what is a superb piece of British engineering. Highly recommended - no kitchen should be without one.

            I love this toaster.

I absolutely love toast, and this toaster for me represents a match made in heaven. My mum came home with it years ago, having spent what seemed an obscene amount of money on a toaster, considering you can pick one up for £10 pretty much anywhere. However, when you consider the flames and danger that those examples of bread grilling terror used to provide compared with the dualit, there is no question it was a sound investment. It is not an overstatement to say that it has never once caused any problems (except for optimistically large slices of bread). The entire appliance smacks of good design and good construction, with even the timer having a very solid feel and click to the wind-up. They come in a range of colours (aqua green being my mum's choice), and the two and four slot option makes rustling up hungover breakfast for a crowded kitchen a doddle.

              Great investment

We bought our dualit toaster 4-5 years ago, and its been brilliant. Its reliable, couldn't be simpler to use and looks great. It cost more than I would usually consider spending, but since we had broken several cheaper toasters in the past, its turned out to be value for money too. My husband went to boarding school and the common room had 2 dualit toasters for use by about 600 teenage boys. Apparently they kept going for years despite the extremely rough usage.

We did blow out an element las year- dualit sent a replacement within the week, and it was easy to fit. Top marks for customer service.

My only criticism would be that the slots are not quite wide enough for toasted teacakes or crumpets - you can get them in, but sometimes they stick getting them out.

Basically this is the toaster you should consider if you want something to last a lifetime. All the other manufacturers copy its looks, but I bet they don't copy the build quality.
