Advantages: Durable, Reliable, Stylish, Easy to clean and options to only operate 2 slots at a time.
Disadvantages: The price.
Before I got my current job I was a chef for 8 years. In every professional kitchen I worked a Dualit toaster was featured, it's ease of use and reliabilty made it a must appliance, No-one wants the toaster to break half way through breakfast service!
Because of this I would recommend it above all others for the domestic kitchen. It's easy to clean and gives you an option just to operate 2 slots at a time so you don't waste energy.
As far as I know all of the Dualit range are stainless steel which makes it difficult to clean in some respects because every mark shows and they are easliy scratched however it is very durable and I have never seen a rusty one. The controls are easy to navigate with an old fashioned timer on the side that you just twist to set the amount of minutes you want your bread to go in for Given the size it is not as heavy as you might expect, essentially there are not many componements inside so it's not suprising.
Although the initial cost is simply massive the toaster will last for 20+ years if well maintained. I worked with the same tosater for 3 years which was a Dualit and I must have put thousands of slice through it, because of that I would say that no other toaster comes close to the quality you can expect from one of these.
Summary: If you can afford one then get one.

- 04/09/08 You've also reviewed the 6 slice version so it would be good to stay close to this category version. |

- 04/09/08 Good to know your experience, but what of the toaster itself? Since its stainless steel and commercial grade, is it heavy? Are the controls easy to work out? Some more info about the acutal quality of the toast it provides would also be good to know. All this info is crucial for buyers. |
