I've had a bad 2 weeks with my electric knife and kettle both going wrong and then to top it all at the weekend my toaster decided to stop working too! As I had 3 things to replace Ive replaced them with value ones. This review is about my toaster.
I bought it from Homebase and as I said its from their value range and cost just £5.19. As you would expect for that price its pretty basic but as long as it gives me my toast and chocolate spread on a Sunday morning I'm happy.
It comes quite basic packaging with very little on the box. It just informs the customer that it is a Value White 2 slice toaster and has the following features:
Cool Wall Toaster
Variable Browning Control
Mid Cycle Cancelling
The toaster is white and measures 23 x 17cm's. The toasting slots take an average slice of bread and also you can put crumpets in there too. I make all my own bread so the slices are not always the same shape or thickness but these all go in the toaster with no problems, All the controls are on one end of the toaster with the usual slide button to push down when you want to start toasting. Just under this there is a little round button to press if you want to stop the bread toasting at any point, this will pop the bread up mid cycle if for any reason you want to stop toasting.
Next to this is a little dial that gives you the choice of how well done you like your toast. It ranges from 1 to 7 with 1 being very lightly toasted and 7 is more for those who like their toast quite well done. I like my bread lightly toasted so tend to have mine on just 2 but out of all the settings I think 4 is about average.
As with most value electrical products the cord is not very long, just 75cm's but it does come with a plug. There are 4 little feet under the toaster where the cord can be wrapped when not in use. Being value it doesn't have a slide out crumb tray underneath instead there is a hinged metal plate underneath with just one screw. To clean the crumbs from this toaster you need to remove the screw with a slotted screwdriver and pull the plate down and shake the crumbs out.
I'm pleased with my little cheap toaster, it does everything I need it to. The only downside is the cable length but I can live with this. Its quite a neat little thing if you are short of worktop space and has plenty of settings so everyone should get their toast to their liking.
I think this deserves a good 4 stars.
