I've just read the last review and think that the reviewer may have had a rogue toaster...
I've owned my toaster for about 3 years if not a bit longer.. I bought it to match my kettle and have it in silver..It is a shiny silver in the middle section with a more matt silver on either end. The dial on the side indicates how hot you want the toaster to get. I tend to have this between 3 and 4 and this toasts fairly lightly.. I will turn it up for crumpets though as it barely toasts on these settings.
There are 3 buttons on the front which are to cancel, reheat or for defrosting.. I only tend to use the cancel button and never had any issues with this sticking..
The slots are extra wide which is great for toasting crumpets and thick sliced bread without it burning.
There is an integrated crumb tray as well so fairly easy to clean. However it does get really hot when its toasting so don't touch the shiny silver part... the part on the sides don't get as hot so you can still touch these..
I have not had any issues with the reliability of my toaster during the time that I have had it and would definitely buy a kenwood toaster when mine does finally give up...
Its easy to use, can be adjusted and easy to clean. I bought my toaster for around £40.00 3 years ago but you can now buy if for £20.00 if you shop around
I was pretty disappointed with this product. I don't expect bells and whistles from a £19.99 toaster however did hope for more than I got. I have had several Kenwood items in the past andhave never had issue withthem but thisone quality-wise is below par in my opinion.
I found it took a long time for the toaster to "get going". Turned to setting 4 is usually sufficient for some well done (not burnt) toast in a minute or two - this takes a good four minutes.
I also found that the cancel button kept sticking before too long (not on purchase therefore not delivered faulty) and the overall presentation was adequate but not fantastic. Kenwood have a name for quality and the word I can think of best to describe this toaster is average (at best!).
One feature I did like and it was the reason for my choice of toaster at the time, is the extra wide slots so you can fit any slide of bread in and get good overall toasting and no catching and burning. Had the rest of the feature been of a higher standard this would have ben a great toaster for me and my family.
