I had the misfortune three weeks ago of my beloved Toaster crashing out on me in the middle of a Monday Morning run. Due to needing that 6am slice of toast to get me going on a morning I immediately replaced it that afternoon and the model I ended up with, after deciding I wanted to buy something with quality that would last longer, was this delightful Kenwood piece that I managed to get for £17.99 in a sale.
There were a number of reasons I decided to make this purchase. First and foremost was the colouring, I needed a grey device to fit in with my kitchen as I think white ones look old fashioned and dated and black simply would not have matched my colour scheme (and the toaster is kept on the bench 24/7). Secondly I wanted a good brand and due to previous experiences with Kenwood being nothing but positive I knew I could expect to get quality, and quality I have got. Due to having a small kitchen too I wanted something that was only a two slice toaster rather than something bigger that would hog up more space on the kitchen worktop. And for a final reason I thought the design here with the central button and slightly narrowing exterior looked rather cool!
But looks aren't the main thing and what I have found with this toaster is thst performance has been high. From the first slice I have been happy with the speed and quality of this as well as the ease of use. Nothing too complicated, a few switches a simple fast toasting process. The slots are nice and wide 9extra wide as advertised basically means you can get thick bread in!) which allows more options and there is a nice balance between the settings for toasting which means you can find just the right setting for you. All the buttons are there, the options (cancel, flip up, defrost etc) and it works superbly. The crumb tray at the bottom is a good tool although being very shallow needs regularly emptied depending on the type of bread being used.
One issue would be that the cord isn't very long which has restricted where I can put in in my kitchen. Now I am fully aware that long cords are not common on toasters but in this case at under 1m the cord is very restrictive and means there is only one place in my kitchen I can have it which is not necessarily where I would place it if I had choice. A minor flaw though in an otherwise superb product.
Kenwood have come up trumps again and it appears that this will be one toaster that will last for some time.
