      Disadvantages

It's only a toaster at the end of the day

We bought this the same time as our first Magimix Kettle for the same absurd reason - it looks cool and is sexily called Le-Toaster. It is a very solidly built 2-slot toaster and it certainly should be over-engineered for £125 odd, (could have bought ten at Argos I know)

It is all brushed aluminium and with the wipe over of a warm sponge it stays looking like new. A gentle push of the crumb tray and it releases enough to pull it out and shake out the bits, a shake of the whole unit and you can keep the toaster free of crumbs that might burn and get encrusted next time.

You put your bread in, choose the degree of browning with the turn of a numbered knob, push down the handle and wait till, bingo; you get toast (just like any ordinary toaster). You can get the toast out quick if you press the button in the centre of the degree-of-browning knob. The outer casing gets pretty hot but not dangerously so.

The slots are fairly wide, not really wide enough for half a hot cross bun or similar, but wide enough for when you cut your own slice of fresh bread. It doesn't have shutters that cover the top of the slots, as many toasters do.

There are lots of buttons but just two are useful: one for one slice, one for two slices. The other two are for frozen bread and one with a picture of a baguette on it, neither of which seem to make much difference. If the bread is frozen I would just toast it for longer, don't know why you need a button.

Like many toasters it has the absurd attachment of a rack to place on top of the toaster that jams into the toaster slots. The idea being that when you place your tea-cakes, buns or whatever on the top the heat is supposed to warm or brown them; fundamental problem being that the radiant heat from the elements is designed to point at the bread in the slots not at something sitting above the slots. Apart from over-heating the toaster and putting your electricity meter into over-drive it vaguely puts brown stripes on your bun - so forget about that.

For all that money is should make good toast and yes it is evenly browned and tastes like toast - and it better last forever.
