Advantages: Reliable, size is alright
Disadvantages: Beeps loudly, cooking controls increase too fast instead of a gradual 1-6
I bought this toaster 5 months ago as a replacement for my old and destroyed one. Since then it has been a pleasure to use apart from one design flaw, which is that you cant turn the beep noise off when it finishes cooking toast. This is an extremely loud beep and can be heard many rooms away which if you have children, will wake them up and more to the point, it becomes annoying after a while. It still makes me jump when i get distracted.
The toaster mechanically has been sound, it doesn't half cook toast then over cook toast on the same setting day to day and has not started buzzing loudly or making rumbling noises. The toaster is actually quiet to use generally, occasionally there is a clunk of the metal expanding at high temperatures but no serious bangs, buzzing or cracking noises.
The outer casing of the toaster has been very durable, it has withstood knocks and bangs quite well with only small marks or dents, nothing has cracked, fallen off, and all of the damage it does have was my fault.
When cooking toast it does have a weird way of letting you choose how cooked it is. You can choose 1 to 6 but 1 is just a bit warm, and 6 is solid charcoal. 2 is perfect for me, about what toast should be, brown in places and white at the sides. 3 is slightly overcooked and 4, 5, and 6 are severely overcooked. I never use these settings because it just ruins the toast. It should be a more gradual slope up to 6 rather than a cliff edge at setting 4 where it just turns severely over cooked.
Size wise this is perfect, average bread fits in nicely and because this is the slightly wider model it makes getting it out again easy. It cooks evenly up to the edges of the toast where there are two small white patches down the side but it really depends on where you position the toast as to where these patches will be for you. For me personally i try and get them smack bang in the middle but for longer toast they will need to be re positioned.
Width of bread isn't a problem for this thing, even thick bread or tiger bread is easily positioned in here, and the metal cage wont leave marks on the toast.
I have never encountered any problems with cleaning either, the tray removes easily and you can slot it back in again smoothly without it catching on the sides. You can get a small cloth and just weep up any crumbs stuck to it. There is even a little ridge inside the toaster where the tray slots into which you can just get a cloth into and rub crumbs out.
Cleaning the inner cage is simple and easy to do with just a damp cloth or a cotton bud. The outer casing can be cleaned with a sponge but you need to be careful cleaning over the screen because the water can damage the electronics.
Summary: A pretty good toaster on settings 1-3, the beep is loud and annoying
