A lovely toaster I fully expect to last me for years

I bought this toaster over a year ago now when my boyfriend cleverly managed to kill the previous toaster by accidentally managing to cook part of the cable when he trapped it in the corner of the sandwich toaster he was using! Given that our previous toaster was a tesco value one, we decided to buy something a bit nicer to replace it and this is what caught my eye.

This is part of the Morphy Richards accent range - they make these in a number of colours and either 2 or 4 slice options, mine is the same as photographed above, a 2 slice burgundy. The ends are the colour accent bit (ie red) and the middle section is a polished metal, with a black base - the little feet on the corners are nice and grippy so it doesn't slide all over the place. We went for the 2 slice option for 2 main reasons a) it was cheaper and b) we don't have toast very often so 4 slices in one go seemed a bit overkill.

On on end you have the standard dial to adjust depending on just how burnt you want your toast to be, the spring loaded slider and 3 buttons including a cancel option and a very handy defrost setting.

The toast slots (for want of a better word) are a much better size than that of my previous toaster - they're nicely wide, so I haven't had problems fitting any thickness of pre sliced bread I've purchased so far. They're also deep enough so you don't end up with one half of your bread burning while the other remains completely untoasted.

I like my toast barely brown so so I tend to keep it just a smidge above the lowest setting which gives it a nice golden appearance. My boyfriend prefers his a bit darker so he tends to 'cook' on a number 3 or 4.

The mains cable is a fair length - not so short you need to keep it right next to the plug socket, but neither is it so long you end up with a coil of cable on the countertop.

I can't remember precisely how much this cost at the time of purchase, but I have a feeling it was somewhere around the £25 mark from Argos. I can only find the 4 slice versions on their website now which are being sold for £34.99 so either way certainly not the cheapest toaster you could buy.

While this isn't exactly cheap I do think it represents fair value for money - it's attractively designed, feels well made, is properly proportioned, has matching items available (I'd like the pyramid kettle but can't quite justify the £40 odd for it right now!) and should last for a good number of years to come. As such I definately would recommend it - there are plenty of colour options so you can always go for one that matches a theme, is your favourite colour or maybe something a bit more neutral while staying stylish.
